Are Burnley Boring?

Post by burnleymik » Wed Jan 01, 2025 1:35 pm

Listening to talk sport and they are discussing the Championship and he just announced that coming up next...

"Are Burnley boring?"

Should be an interesting listen for those travelling to the game today.

I think we should restart the "anti-football" chant. I find our games more like a competitive chess match rather than boring, lots of probing and playing for situational advantage before trying to strike. The level of interplay is fascinating to me. Of course, from time to time it seems like we are not trying to strike and that is frustrating, but I'm certain the manager and players all want to win every game. But not losing wins you titles!

I recall that boring second goal against Watford the other week and those two boring goals at Sheffield United.
Other than that....... 🤣

Well Scott Parker's brand of football is certainly boring.

Another half of football without a shot on goal for us.

Definitely. Obviously different things suit different people, and a clean sheet is exciting for some, but to me, it's boring. When both sides' primary aim is to keep a clean sheet, and both succeed, it may improve our chances of being able to pay higher wages next year, but surely there's more to football than that?

I think we've been involved in 7 of the 26 0-0 draws in this season's championship

Over a quarter

That's pretty boring

At times we are boring, it's naive to think otherwise.

Boring, boring, Burnley

An awful watch. When Cullen is rocking, things can happen. When Cullen is not, he kills the whole game play. Socks every bit of momentum but of tge game, playing short safe balls, side, back.

Trafford takes an age to decide what to do.

The rest just pass and pass and never try and break into the box or cross the ball. Shots from outside penalty area, fly to row z. If we do take a shot.

Awful.

Possession football is fine when the idea is to move the opposition round to create an opening which in fairness does happen, it did today, but when it does the player with the ball still seems to want to play another safe sideways/backward pass ignoring the opportunity and the chance is lost, then for me our style of play becomes frustratingly tedious.

Not much discussion to be had on this topic sadly. We're boring the vast majority of the time.

Sheffield United, Watford and the opening two games being the exception.

If you think that last year was more enjoyable than the year before, you're in a minority. Promotion into the "promised land" is likely to provide defeats and relegation, and is certain to provide fewer games at higher cost, and VAR. At least two years ago, we had fun getting there, even though the end result was boredom and relegation.

I accept that promotion has to be the aim, but I want some fun getting there. As it stands, I could be on the Turf now and it wouldn't be much less entertaining than it was this time yesterday. I'd have been far more entertained at Accrington. What is the point of football - purely to improve the balance sheet?

Well, I for one left the turf refreshed on Wednesday night.

Of course I'd slept through most of the 2nd Half, only to be woken up by Hannibal's sending off. It was a surprise 'cos I didn't even know he was playing.

We’re certainly not an exciting team to watch.

I’ve come away from a lot of games this season thinking that it was pretty dull but predominantly, a frustrating watch.

A neutral wouldn’t be dashing for the remote to switch on one of our games, this season.

If we play as slow and ponderous against Liverpool next year, they will swamp us. Could be double figures against.

I kind of agree with your general sentiment, but that's what we kind of signed up for when the powers that be & ALK decided to plunge the club into debt & without massive wholesale changes it's not sustainable in the championship. Christ almighty you only had to notice the changes that happened upon relegation the first time on ALKs watch you think that was bad it doesn't bear thinking about a sustained stop in the championship.
