Apart from the Maddison threat, Spurs haven't really looked like hurting Tamworth.

Yes, they've looked poor have Spurs, but I reckon they'll win this 0-1.

Tamworth have been terrific - they’ll probably run out of steam but would be great if they could get something - they deserve it
Re: Today's Football 12/01
To say Timo Werner is a German international he's been poor against Tamworth.

Come on, Tamworth.
Score about now!

Re: Today's Football 12/01
If i were a Spurs fan i'd be fuming with this, Werner and Brennan Johnson have been absolutely pathetic. Should have been dragged off.

What an effort for Tamworth taking the mighty Tottenham to extra time. Could have won it at the death too.

So close at the end then, Tamworth.

Re: Today's Football 12/01
So would this have gone to extra time or would it have been a replay after 90 mins last season?

Re: Today's Football 12/01
Full time and 0-0, Tamworth with 2 great chances to win it in the 95th minute but Spurs got blocks in.
Now the players can look forward to a one in a lifetime opportunity of playing in a world class 60,000+ seater stadium and the club can reap the financial benefits that will bring.... oh wait no, it is straight to extra time because Premier League clubs don't want extra games so their players are fresh and ready for the post and pre season tours around America and Asia.

Re: Today's Football 12/01
To be honest the extra time and penalties actually gives tamworth a real chance, especially on this pitch. A trip to spurs would be the inevitable massacre.claretburns wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 2:31 pmFull time and 0-0, Tamworth with 2 great chances to win it in the 95th minute but Spurs got blocks in.

Re: Today's Football 12/01
Whilst a replay would be a good money spinner - I would suggest Tamworth have a greater chance of progressing in the tournament by this tie going to ET and perhaps penalties.

Premier league ref gives Tamworth nothing but when a Spurs player falls over it's a foul.

When we were in the lower the divisions I always thought the “magic of the cup” was either drawing a big side or holding on for a replay and getting to play at a big clubs stadium.

Really? I’d rather knock out a big team than get a draw and a replay at their ground.Winstonswhite wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 2:50 pmWhen we were in the lower the divisions I always thought the “magic of the cup” was either drawing a big side or holding on for a replay and getting to play at a big clubs stadium.

Re: Today's Football 12/01
I’m sure that the chairman of Tamworth would rather have the extra £500k+ to improve their facilities and ground.
Both domestic Cup competitions are the preserve of the top PL clubs. A football league club hasn’t won the League Cup since the formation of the PL. Any “romance of the Cup” seems to fizzle out when it gets to the business end.

Re: Today's Football 12/01
I reckon their fans would rather beat Spurs than draw against them and get a replay. But anyway, pros and cons to scrapping replays, and we saw the benefit of it yesterday.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:05 pmI’m sure that the chairman of Tamworth would rather have the extra £500k+ to improve their facilities and ground.

Tamworth robbed of a money spinning replay and once in a lifetime chance for their lads to play at a top stadium.

Re: Today's Football 12/01
This is exactly the sort of thing that the abolition of replays was intended to do. The powers that be believe that if Tottenham aren't good enough to beat Tamworth, they should be given extra time to do so; if Tamworth aren't good enough to beat Tottenham, they don't deserve any reward.claretburns wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 2:31 pmFull time and 0-0, Tamworth with 2 great chances to win it in the 95th minute but Spurs got blocks in.

Obviously extra time favours the big club. They're fitter and they have a better subs bench.

Re: Today's Football 12/01
But this isn’t true. Replays were scrapped due to the European competitions being expanded and therefore reducing the number of midweek slots.dsr wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:20 pmThis is exactly the sort of thing that the abolition of replays was intended to do. Re: Today's Football 12/01
If you think that the fans of a club playing non league would not want to go and see their team play at Anfield, Old Trafford or The Emirates, which could be a once in a lifetime opportunity, I disagree.
