Premier League Broadcasting Changes

Post by ElectroClaret » Mon Jan 13, 2025 4:15 pm

(Mike Keegan, Inside Sport, Daily Mail)
Apparently, PL clubs are meeting on Friday to discuss changes that will "revolutionise" tv coverage.

Possible innovations are body-cams on players during warm-ups, filming inside dressing rooms, and half-time interviews with players and managers, and as they return after for the second half.
Also mooted are interviews with players after they've been taken off. (That might be an eye-opener)

Thoughts on all this malarkey?

Player interviews are generally dull as dishwater, not sure we need more of them. Just let us watch the game.

Key halftime questions that we wont be able to contain ourselves waiting for the answers:
Well Wayne your 5-0 down at HT ,are you happy with your teams performance?
Well,Michel Arsenal are losing away to bottom club Southampton, what do the think about the pitch?
Interviewing Patrick Bamford after being subbed after 20 mins ,Patrick is that a tear running down your cheek?

Mic up the referees is the only broadcasting innovation that would truly change the game for the better.

We would need a third commentator whose sole role would be to apologise for the player profanities picked up on the refs microphone.

The most revolutionary thing that I can think of is to stop ******* about with the game and dumbing it down at the expense of genuine fans, who don’t need gimmicks and nonsense to enjoy the game.

I'm trying to get my head round the fact that anyone would want to watch a stream of a warmup from a bodycam.

Initial thoughts are that they should probably look up the definition of “revolutionise”

I can’t see the point for a few stretches and rondos

Villa did some along these lines in a pre season game with Tielemans wearing it during the game.

I felt motion sick watching it

Sound like a great excuse for them to charge even more money for a Sky subscription.

Stop showing replays when the ball is in play and they have to then show a replay of what we’ve missed because of a replay.

I was thinking it's maybe ideas to provide content provided through Sky' platform, which can't be reproduced through a firestick stream.

Won't be popular with those who go on the game but I wouldn't mind having TV breaks midway in each half where we have 5 mins to get a glass of water or go to the toilet. Would also give the manager a chance to speak to his players and tweak the tactics.

Not great for fans on the games but at the end of the day they only make up a small % of the overall viewing audience.

I don't need more coverage of something I've grown tired of. Get rid of VAR, start booking diving again. Stop showing games every night of the week. Might get me interested again.

The Americanisation of the beautiful game. With Everton's takeover I think I heard that there are now 14 teams in the PL that are either American or foreign owned which now means they have enough to pass votes. It won't be long until they change automatic relegation to some sort of play off between the team that wins the Championship and the team that finished bottom of the PL.

There’s definitely far too much of it on TV for my liking. I’m getting bored of it, barring going to Burnley. I never thought I’d say that.

Did tonight’s Millwall v Dagenham really need shifting to a Monday night to be shown on ITV bloody 4!?

Itv used to interview managers at half time of Champions League games when they had the coverage. It was as dull as you'd expect.

Stop showing the managers during the game especially Brentfords boss who insists on chewing with his mouth open. Also stop interrupting live games to show teams getting off the bus.In general stop showing crap and ban Chris Sutton and Alan Smith from all tv coverage

Beyonce's HT show was pretty good tbf. Not in Chico's league, but decent.

Since 1992 football stopped being a sport and started to become “entertainment” for TV. Like WWE wrestling. The game has long since gone.

Apart from the occasional game football is boring, over exposed, over coached and overpriced . I think the tide will tun on subscription numbers.
