Former Manchester City captains dies aged 90.

Saw this earlier today - amazing career given he was well into his 30s when he signed for City then went on to lift the league title as captain before going on to manage them.

I spent 6 months living in Mac in late 1969, shared a house with a City fan and went to Maine Road a fair few times. I really enjoyed watching that team. Bell, Summerbee, Lee caught the eye but the full backs were excellent - Pardoe and Book. I recall the latter had a nice west country accent.

For some reason, he's the player I remember most from the 1960's player card albums.

Saw him play a good few times in that great City side of the time, after arriving on the 'Big Stage' really late in his career.
Always remember a pic of him celebrating with a big grin & either a missing tooth, or big gaps.
They don't make them like him any more.

He proved to be a great success story for Malcolm Allison. Book had played for Allison at Bath so Allison signed him to Plymouth. Allison then took him to City when he became Joe Mercer’s number two. He was 30 when he went to Plymouth but he went on to play for ten years in the league.

He was a very good player and complimented what was a more than decent city team. I also seem to remember him coming to Turf Moor with a Chesterfield side when he must have been near 40, he was outstanding then too. RIP
