Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
There's some frustration on the Rovers board about Sunderland splashing out on Cannon..8 figure sum being mentioned.
.....and why can't Rovers compete?....stingy Venkys..yada yada.
A quick check reveals that Sunderland have over 36,000 STHs this season.
Rovers have sold less than 4k non-concession adult STs this season.

Hmmmm...maybe..clarets1978 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 11:07 amOr it could be because of the laws in India stopping Venkys sending cash over like they used to
Or maybe Venkys dont want to continue to pump 20m a year to prop up something that the population of Blackburn is rapidly losing interest in......and the laws about wealth transfer are quite convenient.
Btw....there's actually no law saying they cant send cash... just that bonds/assurances of equal amounts have to be provided.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
And the provision of the financial guarantee to the Indian government will continue until the 25th March at least as the court case was postponed yesterday again and put back to the date above, it keeps getting pushed back which is a real shame of course.

Bit of bidding war going on over Cannon with the Mackems upping their offer to £13m allegedly.

You cant really blame him though. Imagine being at a club facing relegation to league one and a chance to be in the premier league in a few months crops up. Its bound to turn his head and unsettle him.

This must be one of the quietest windows we've had in a while. I suppose it's an improvement on Kompany's scattergun approach.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Mackems really going for it this season no doubt about it.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Sunderland are betting the ranch. Fair play to them, they've as much chance of automatic promotion as any of the top 4. £13m for Cannon seems quite high though. 9 in 22 for Stoke looks good on paper, but remove the 4 he scored in one game vs Pompey and 5 in 21 doesn't look quite as appealing. That said, if he helps them get promoted, £13m will be money well spent.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Someone said yesterday that Everton want him and his agent is Moyes' brother, not sure how much truth in that.
If he is that highly rated I would have thought Leicester would be looking to keep him for next season in the Championship, especially as Vardy will be 67 next season

I thought exactly the same though, for a relatively small fee to Leicester in the scheme of things, I’d have thought they’d prefer to have kept a striker with a season of Championship experience.
Maybe they’re banking on the £ to stay the right side of PSR or need it to invest in someone they think can help them avoid relegation.

I think we’ll be “entering the race” to bump the price up for two title contenders.
I’ll be amazed if we’re seriously interested and we should steer well clear of any bidding war.

Definitely not just you. He didn’t look anything special in either of our games vs Stoke this season. I’ll be pretty shocked if either Sunderland or Sheffield United go to £13m, or he’d feature much for Everton if he went there.KernowHouseClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 1:16 pmIs it just me that does't see Cannon being anything special, always flattered to deceive in my opinion

The difference is Everton are offering cash, the rest want loans

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Yes, and I did think of Tarks when I wrote that.
The reason I didn’t is because he ran his contract down. Don’t get me wrong, his time here was a huge success and he gave 100% until his final game. Nor do I blame him for doing that after we turned down excellent offers (allegedly).
But it’s an example that if you’ll dig your heels in at one club it’s quite likely you will at the next.
That said, I’m sure he was disappointed the move didn’t happen in summer and do understand it’s unlikely he’s going to give 100% for Plymouth after that as it may make a move even harder.

Not much of a bidding war if all three clubs are offering a loan with obligation if we go up, will be whichever club will pay the best wages

Are either worth circa £10m
Would either be good enough for the Premier League
We've come unstuck buying in overseas players with very little physical scouting knowledge about - spreadsheets maybe
There's been enough evidence to see at first hand about the attributes of the above two
Don't see much to get excited about from either
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
They can all bid a different figure they'll pay on promotion.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 3:32 pmNot much of a bidding war if all three clubs are offering a loan with obligation if we go up, will be whichever club will pay the best wages
So yes there can still be a bidding war
We say 8 million....Sheffield up that to 9...Sunderland say 10...and so it goes on.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Maybe Burnley are offering half up front, unlike the other two - and an obligation to buy regardless of promotion. It might make the fee less than the ludicrous £13m Sunderland have allegedly offered. If it was (example) £4m now, £4m at the end of the season even if we don't go up, maybe that is more agreeable to Leicester, who knows.
(purely guesswork)

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
We all know that in the January window you are going to pay well over the odds compared to the buying clubs own valuation. We have been told for decades that January is the worst time to do business. Nothing’s changed. But if a club has left itself short in certain areas then they either have to enter the market or go with what they have.jojomk1 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 3:41 pmExactly, similar to Whittaker

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
There is a perception that we need the money for whittaker. However this is false. Last season the accounts show we had an income of 25 million which is low but only 11 million of that went into the playing budget where the chairman prioritises infrastructure. The accounts also show 10.5 million in the bank. Whilst we wait on the efl for the new investors players will be sold if the valuation the club put on them is met. If its not met they won't go to any club.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 12:08 pmGiven their current league position I cannot see Plymouth selling Morgan Whittaker in the January window unless they receive an offer well above his true valuation. They will not be strapped for cash given they have a lucrative home FA Cup tie against Liverpool on the horizon. The owners will also be mindful of any fans backlash in selling their best attacking forward at a crucial stage of the season.

Nixon linking Ayr with ‘ambitious’ move for a Burnley striker. Presume it’s one of the U21’s but not sure any of them really qualify as ambitious or hard to get.
