Cannon isn't physical enough to make it in the top league, he's already 22. There must be far better value in Europe, IF we do get promoted the PL is the land of the giants - there is a reason Leicester will likely sell him.

The very fact that 3 clubs trying to get promoted from the Championship are bidding for the same striker shows that options for that area of the pitch are fairly limited.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 3:45 pmThere could but the report says the 3 have offered them same doesn’t it?

Are we rumoured to be in for Cannon to try and force Plymouth's hand I wonder?
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I just can't see Plymouth releasing Whittaker. New manager in post , board will want to back him.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Vardy was nearly 28 and didn't end up doing too bad, wasn't Ian Wright mid-late 20's too? Probably other examples too but can see why your apprehensive, I thought he looked poor away at Stoke but thought he was a handful at the Turf and grew in to the game.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 4:22 pmCannon isn't physical enough to make it in the top league, he's already 22. If we were signing the Cannon that could give the performance he gave at the Turf every week I think he'd turn in to be a fans favourite

I have been saying for the past couple of months if we couldn’t get the deal over the line in the summer we ain’t going to do it in January. It always seemed likely that they were going to be in a relegation battle and clubs tend not to sell their main asset when needed most.

Ayr United are interested in Joe Westley allegedly, probably on loan. Incidentally Ayr are going well in the second tier, only two points behind the league leaders Falkirk.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I was having a nosey on the Plymouth forum; there were a few of the view that they’d reluctantly cash in on Whittaker, if the club made some of the funds available for two or three decent signings.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 4:55 pmI have been saying for the past couple of months if we couldn’t get the deal over the line in the summer we ain’t going to do it in January. Ultimately, if he wants a move and stamps his feet, in most instances, they tend to get their way.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
You can certainly see Plymouth's predicament given their league position and new manager, as stated. However, they're more than likely going to end up with a very unhappy player, even more so than he is now. From reading their messageboard he wanted to come here in the summer and has played poorly, in part because his head isn't in it, I'd assume. Why keep him if his head has been turned, take our money and buy someone who is going to help them stay up.
No idea if he's the type to kick up a stink, but if they deny him the chance to get a move such as this it doent really suit any party. Time will tell if a compromise is reached.
Having said that, I don't feel he's worth the chase, or price. I'd move on to other targets. We obviously want additions, so better to give ourselves more time on the alternative(s) and avoid any panic towards the end of the window.

Yes Leicester loaned him with an obligation to buy if they got promoted, which they did despite not using him much, so they were forced to buy him.

I totally agree with this. Incidentally, I'm not sure he'd fit our system any better, in fact possibly worse, than Anthony

If the cannon deal is a loan with a fee if we are promoted, that would still leave the money for a Whittaker perm deal, rather than it being one or the other

Why not get Koleosho to watch a few videos of Elanga for Forest on how to get to the deadball line and cross it it would be much cheaper in the long run .123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 7:20 pmIf the cannon deal is a loan with a fee if we are promoted, that would still leave the money for a Whittaker perm deal, rather than it being one or the other

May be an idea because I don’t think the coaching is having any effect on him as he’s still doing the same old things that he’s been doing since the start of the season, cutting inside and running into players .Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 7:35 pmWatching a few videos gives people ability and awarenesss?

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I’d expect some more youngsters to go out on loan in addition to Ekdal and Delcroix. Add Sambo to that list and possibly Tresor and/or Redmond.
Who will come in? Sounds like Shelvey is just proving his fitness so is 75% done?
Whittaker , who knows ?
Cannon, think that could just be playing games with our promotion rivals ?
Manning, no idea.

SP said that LB is not a position we’re looking to strengthen.
Whittaker I think is true. Shelvey most likely is my guess. Wouldn’t shock me to see that before Sunderland.
I don’t think our real targets are in the media yet.

JBL and Al-Dakhil both started in Stuttgarts 2-1 win over RB Leipzig tonight. JBL got the equaliser.
Two players that could/should still be here.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Cannon’s record for Stoke was a lot better than Delap’s, and while not at Delap levels for City his record for Everton youths was impressive. I think he would get us up, but agree with others he wouldn’t be physical enough for the PL, not built like Delap or Ferguson and not lightening fast.

He can work on the physical side of his game, but if his movement is smart enough he doesn’t need to be physical.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 9:51 pmCannon’s record for Stoke was a lot better than Delap’s, and while not at Delap levels for City his record for Everton youths was impressive. I would say 10m is about fair for cannon, with his profile.
I’d be happy going into next season with foster cannon and Flemming

I just presumed someone from the recruitment team give him duff info to find out who was blabbing?

Maybe he’ll turn up when there’s something to report.

I think it's safe to say that Shelvey is a squad signing and that if you think we have got to the 15th January and lodged a bid for Whittaker before enquiring about others I think you may be mistaken. Whittaker may be a real target. But was he the first choice target. Perhaps not.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 10:19 pmIt’s fair to say Shelvey and Whittaker are real targets

If you are impressed with that montage you are easily pleased!, tin pot league and nothing CJ hasn't already been doing all season with regards long range passing. I'd personally rather we focused on nurturing the two youngsters we saw at the weekend.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 10:28 pmOn Shelvey to I was sent this - https://youtu.be/bnCwgcMKW18?si=uwB7U5NHUCra8d17

I think it shows he is still a quality players, why would you want to pile so much pressure on two young lads at this stage of the season after a good showing in the cup. Get them out on loan playing against sides like reading week in week out so they can developlouieollie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 10:34 pmIf you are impressed with that montage you are easily pleased!, tin pot league and nothing CJ hasn't already been doing all season with regards long range passing. I don't think it shows anything of note or value personally but again it's just opinions, I don't believe having the two lads in and around the first team squad for the rest of the season is undue pressure. More likely to help in their development getting to experience the quality of players already in their positions at first hand rather than dropping a league or two to play "kick, spit n wrestle" standard with no quality role models day in day out.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 10:40 pmI think it shows he is still a quality players, why would you want to pile so much pressure on two young lads at this stage of the season after a good showing in the cup. Young players need to play not just train with the first team, look at the lad on loan at Dundee, 19 years old developing so well, much more then he would just training with our first team.louieollie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 10:48 pmI don't think it shows anything of note or value personally but again it's just opinions, I don't believe having the two lads in and around the first team squad for the rest of the season is undue pressure. Just because they are in league 1 or league 2 doesn’t mean their aren’t quality role models. There are still model professionals in lower league football

I'm talking getting game time here not just training, the lad at Dundee is a rarity in the amount of game time he's getting and again I question the actual standard of the league he's in.

He definitely knows how to make a long pass.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Personally I’m hoping for a quiet window…
Keep Traff. Let’s see where we are in June.
We already have Humphrey’s to fill lb and look solid.
Ekdal shouldn’t be loaned/sold to a rival no matter the brass.
Delcroix … decent wouldn’t be adverse to a non rival transfer.
Incomings ..
Whittaker … good player . Should we pay over the odds NO.
We have better players on the books.
Cannon … meh again decent champ player. Better on the books as we know when fit.
Shelvey .. take our money. The key to unlocking a low block .
Just my two penneth. Flemming is also now starting to look the player we hoped. And as a final point.. Scott Parker I’m sorry for doubting. We all need time to grow and learn.
