Today's games

Post by morninbob » Sat Jan 18, 2025 2:09 pm

Watching Plymouth, if we don't beat them we don't deserve to go up. Whittaker has been anonymous, don't waste our money.

Kluivert hat trick, Bournemouth stuffing Newcastle 4 1, they've been brilliant.

How good are Bournemouth !!! Their manager must surely be in line for a big club job soon. He’s done a sensational job there.

What I’ve seen of Whittaker this season, he reminds me of an Anthony mark 2. Not sure if he is the answer to our goal scoring problems.

Bournemouth 4 up at Newcastle. A few years back, Bournemouth at home would be seen as one of the easier games in the Prem.

Completely agree. If he is our only attacking target it’s quite worrying.

Yes how good and how do they do it? There is also Brighton, Brentford and of course Notts Forest. But in particular Bournemouth. Small ground and presumably relatively small income, although I think they have a rich owner. Even so they will be subject to the fiscal rules - such as they are. I just wonder is it time we had a foreign manager (again after VK)?

Bournemouth were quite good as well under Eddie Howe, finishing 9th?

Game over at Bramhall Lane.

You have to say that everyone below Boro feel like absolute fodder.

Agree

Unfortunately though a lot of those teams have come to Burnley and very easily got 0-0s.

Sheffield United and Leeds much better at seeing these teams off than us

Whilst you absolutely have to commend Parker for fixing the mess I don't think he gets us promoted, we don't have the quality to take the few chances his side make often enough. So, we either need to change the way we play and create more or Pace needs to find far better quality. I do fear for us tbh, every chance we lose Esteve, CJ, Roberts and Brownhill if we don't go up.

Over to Pace

but at least we would have the funds to replace them. The scoring in home games is a problem that I don't think Parker can fix sadly through the reasons I mentioned.

We have excellent chances in every game, so it's working till the ball gets in the box. I can't think of anyone on the market we can afford who would score those chances at hull, boro, and home to stoke. All of them towards the end of games which would have guaranteed the points.

Why would you say this? We are second in the division and I agree we need to score more but the team seems to have gelled together under Scott Parker's leadership.

I think Parker is as aware of our attacking shortcomings as any of our fans. Let’s see if we address the appropriate reinforcements in the next 2 weeks. Also he is intelligent enough to know what needs changing-it’s a great shame our attacking coach Bellamy left with the exodus of players. We could possibly benefit from someone of Bellamy’s ability to be helping Parker

Very happy to still be in touch. In 9 days we will only have Sheff Utd to play of the top five, and Boro played twice too, and only Watford of the top eleven to play away. If we get past Leeds and are within 2 points of top we are in an amazing position given what is to come.

Sheffield are no better than us.

As for Whittaker, he is a left footed Anthony, but one whose head is clearly turned and is going through the motions. I’m not overthinking his recent performances. Next week will be interesting. Really hard to see how he can play against us.
