Not a popular opinion but I think Parker would bite your hand of for BBD.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 8:59 pmThe real issue here is whether Sheff Utd’s signings BBD, Clarke, Cannon and Choudhury would get in our side. I would suggest none of them do (Cannon fairly good but not a Parker style back to goal big guy). I prefer Cullen to Choudhury, marginally, Championship player of the season 2 years ago.
So they are adding depth but we have depth anyway, apart from up front.
Leeds are struggling with FFP so may sign someone but not certain.
We have signed Shelvey who in theory could make a decent difference to what we had before. So I’m not despondent but do want that one quality forward.
His record at this level is pretty exceptional.

Decent sure, but "pretty exceptional" I'd say is really stretching a point
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I still think replacing Souttar is the key as to whether they go up automatically or not. Without him they are shipping goals for fun whereas beforehand they were solid as a rock.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 8:59 pmThe real issue here is whether Sheff Utd’s signings BBD, Clarke, Cannon and Choudhury would get in our side. The only record he’s beaten recently is number of donuts you can eat in a week - 146 apparently

Boniface was going to Saudi and the assumed replacement was Ferguson, but they’ve now signed Duran and dropped out of signing Boniface. Not sure if that means they no longer want Ferguson, but what a kick in the teeth for Boniface. Probably on the verge of a huge pay day and they went for Duran instead.

Interesting - understandable that Bloomfield would want to take Kone with him to LutonHedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 9:52 pmLuton have had bids rejected upto £6m for Kone at Wycombe unbelievably .
Wycombe well placed for automatic promotion and presumably not under pressure to sell - I think they either purchased or bid for Reading's training facility at a price of £20M
If the player forces the move through that might unsettle the other strikers there
Have long thought Morris would be a good fit for us and should we get promoted has shown he can perform well at PL level

Let’s be fair, over 100 of them appearances came before he was 21.matttheclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 10:03 pmHe's scored 53 in 215 games at this level.

Since being 21 he’s got 54 goals contributions (goals and assists) in 106 appearances.
He’s a very good player at this level regardless of how we spin it. Take the fact he played for Blackburn out of it, do we really think Parker would turn down a 25 year old forward with that kind of record at this level?

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
On paper Sheffield United have brought some good players in. The needed to because their squad was paper thin.
Wilder has to make it all gel though. He threw Cannon and Diaz straight in last Friday and it looked like a side who’d never met each other at times.

If you remove his 1 good season he has scored 37 league goals in 216 games. Which is quite poor.

You don't make it easy for yourself, Newcastle.
There's nothing exceptional about Ben Brereton Diaz except maybe his claim to be South American.

Love how people on here rubbish footballers joining our rivals. Sheff Utd know Brereton Diaz better than most clubs or fans.14 games in the PL with SU and 6 goals-thats virtually Chris Wood form. Why wont he be an asset to our rivals

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Ignoring his stats I’m not particularly a fan of BBD but in the 1 season he was on fire most of his goals he was coming in off the left side. That is precisely what we could do with.
Anyway I’m not sure why he’s cropped up as he’s signed for Blades so it’s done.

Maradona, Ronaldo...
Difference being Gyokeres played against us twice two seasons ago? Daft comparisons. At least mine made sense in reply to the post I quoted.

Looking like we are not in for anyone with serious intent.
Despite what some people may think of individuals, SU have definitely strengthened significantly and are already above us.

Not that great a financial model if it doesn’t allow the club to support the manager for a promotion push in the January transfer window.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
The obsession with Sheffield Unite I suppose is understandable considering our similar circumstances.
It is impossible to compare and contrast teams/squads, and assess who has the strongest as it is all hypothethetical.
The one factual element in our favour remains.
If we do our job and achieve two points per game and a total of 92 points then Sheffield need to accrue 94 points, due to their 2 point deduction, in fact due to their goal difference taking a recent hammering that will now be 95 points.
Its a long season and that 2 point deduction and an inferior GD means they require three more points, which they are currently managing but a big ask, especially with a small squad over a full season.
The higher points total we can achieve puts major pressure on them and its feasible that they may have to get close to the 100 point mark just to finish second.

Really we shouldn’t actually need anyone but the club somehow have managed to out themselves in a situation that our 18m signing in Tresor is nowhere near the starting 11

The run of recent fixtures has proved we are capable of continuing our good form with or without Tresor, or anyone else for that matter.
Add to that, the return to fitness of Redmond, Ramsey and Benson and we will have more than enough attacking options.
When I saw the fixtures at the start of the season I knew if we were still in touch at the start of February then we will be ok.
Carry on regardless.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Not strengthening would be a bit stupid with the position we are in with the most difficult fixtures out of the way. We should be expecting to dominate possession in possibly 100 % of games for the rest of the season. We know exactly where we have come up short at times when that's been case so surely we can find someone to help us create a bit more.

Why? Anthony has been comfortably our best wide player this season, the work he does off the ball can’t be ignored eitherclaretcarrot93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 12:09 pmIf we are getting worried about Anthony getting injured then our squad is worse than i thought
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
We need a proper number 9, but we're hampered by the size of the squad we already have. On paper we should have enough with Flemming, Foster, Jay and Barnes... but we know that's not the whole story. None of them will score consistently enough between now and the end of the season.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
They won't be most likely... Not to make much of an impact anyway!... At the start of the season, I said we would see very little of them, if at all...by randomclaret2 » Thu Jan 30, 2025 12:04 pm
When will Redmond, Ramsey and Benson be ready ?
Even if they started in the next match, it would probably take about 10 solid games to get them up to speed and somewhere close to where they need to be with match fitness and form...
I don't even think we will see that much of Ramsey next season if we get promoted, not a regular in the first team anyway... With his injury, it is going to be a long time before he is a regular...
Those hanging their hat on these 3 coming back to make a significant difference will be deeply disappointed. We have already seen with Koleosho, what a long layoff can do to a player.
