And he is the final signing of this window

Based on what seems to be quite fragile finances, the rumoured million we are spending on a player like this who won't make an instant impact seems a bit wasteful.
Every penny should have been going towards someone who scores goals.

We had the Whittaker money we didn’t spend, for a start. What was that, £6M+?
So there was a bit of money to spend, but clearly we felt what was out there wasn’t better than what we already have.
Feel like the club can’t do right from wrong. People were screaming out for a striker, and yet those linked were getting dismissed. Had we spent £4/5/6M on Karlan Grant then people would be moaning about that, too.
The January window is cr@p, we’ve made arguably the signing of the window in this league, and kept hold of all our star players.
Plenty to be positive about.

Who’d heard of Tella before we signed him. Was hardly a prolific scorer, 2 in 36 for Southampton.

Just watch his interview.
He appears to have bags of self confidence.

Overreaction, I haven't been crying out for anything. But we've basically spent the Jay Rod and Egan money on this this lad. It feels a bit like we've spent for the sake of it here. We were as well keeping Jay as an extra centre forwardTsarBomba wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:41 pmWe had the Whittaker money we didn’t spend, for a start. What was that, £6M+?

I could but wrong of course, it just very much feels like a development signing that won't have much first team action

Did we not sign Edward’s earlierGoliath wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:56 pmOverreaction, I haven't been crying out for anything. But we've basically spent the Jay Rod and Egan money on this this lad. Re: ARTICLE: Young winger signs from Ajax
Your saying we only spent the Jay and Egan money on this lad yet we’ve spent a lot on Edwards

Re: ARTICLE: Young winger signs from Ajax
No I'm saying making these relatively small fees is a bit pointless if you don't replace the players you sold and then buy a development squad player with the proceeds.
We were probably stronger with Egan and Rodriguez until the end of the season than this lad.
Re: ARTICLE: Young winger signs from Ajax
If these two solve the lack of goals and we gain promotion, it can be deemed a good window.
If we fall short, because of a lack of goals, it will look like an expensive window, for the wrong reasons.
I’ve nothing against signing young lads with potential. It looks a huge leap for someone of his age / apparent experience to expect him to have much, if any, impact this season.

Re: ARTICLE: Young winger signs from Ajax
Just been looking at his stats. He’s not been a million miles from the Ajax first team this season. Featured several Eredivisie and Europa League squads. Had a bit of pitch time.
I assumed he was a permanent Jong Ajax squad member.

Re: ARTICLE: Young winger signs from Ajax
Since what we have have shown that they are unable to score goals and convert 0-0’s into wins then it clearly comes down either to a recruitment or a funding issue. It will be interesting to read the reaction on this forum if the trend of goalless stalemates continues.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:41 pmWe had the Whittaker money we didn’t spend, for a start. Remember Flemming cost reputedly £7m. To find his replacement would presumably cost a lot more. (I don't think there is any doubt that a goalscorer would be a replacement for Flemming, not someone to play alongside.)

Don't we have an obligation to buy?

Re: ARTICLE: Young winger signs from Ajax
I'm just saying that if we sign a goalscorer as some people are advocating, he will surely come into the team as a replacement for Flemming. Rightly or WRONGLY, there is no way we are going to play Flemming plus a centre forward.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 11:51 pmYes, but you were already talking about a replacement before we've even activated that obligation!

Let's wait and see we thought Tresor was the gifted one but unfortunately it hasn't worked out, the lad Edwards hasn't played for a while so might need time to adjust..TsarBomba wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:41 pmWe had the Whittaker money we didn’t spend, for a start. What was that, £6M+?

Re: ARTICLE: Young winger signs from Ajax
He was out of contract in the Summer so we must rate him quite highly to pay a fee to get him now.
Re: ARTICLE: Young winger signs from Ajax
Saw this data wheel on him last night.
Essentially it translate to someone who seemingly gets into attacking positions to finish chances regularly (more than any other player in that league), which is interesting given he plays off the left wing, can carry the ball well but finishing needs some improvement.
