Some food for thought after today
Some food for thought after today
Steady GK
Sonne decent back up for Roberts (who I hope signs a new deal)
Humphries is the better defensive LB but thought he and Pires combined quite well with Pires happy to take men on down the line unlike some others tried there
Worrall a bit flakey at times but decent back up for the rest of this season
Bauress certainly has a future with us and needs an extended contract now
Edwards showed far more in his short spell than Anthony does in terms of getting past players
Shelvey, when fit, could be the better option than Laurent (even Brownhill) in a holding position
Sarmiento and Hannibal both had their best games of the season
Benson and Redmond need more game time towards the end of matches if scoreline allows
If only we had bought a decent striker

Re: Some food for thought after today
I think Sonne looks a more reliable full back than Roberts but possibly with less attacking threat/movement.jojomk1 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 7:37 pmSteady GK

I don't think there's any "could" about Shelvey being a better option than Laurent.

Shelvey on the ball is fine. He still looked to have some chub on him so might not last 90minutes. Hopefully, if his heart is in it, he can lose it in training and become a valuable member of the squad.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 11:29 pmI don't think there's any "could" about Shelvey being a better option than Laurent.

Re: Some food for thought after today
Said this another thread we need to find a formation where we can play shelvey, hannibal, edwards, cullen and anthony in the same team. I think 5 at the back in the championship is too defensive
Re: Some food for thought after today
Shelvey often looks to have time on the ball when he receives it - because he makes it for himself. Obviously has a very clever footballing brain.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 11:29 pmI don't think there's any "could" about Shelvey being a better option than Laurent.

But if you take fitness and our style of play into account then is it Laurent to start and play an hour plus and then Shelvey to come on and create, for us, or frustrate them, depending on the game situation when he comes onTheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 11:29 pmI don't think there's any "could" about Shelvey being a better option than Laurent.

Re: Some food for thought after today
I’d agree with that with a fully fit player
When teams are changed for cup games and then struggle and have to bring the rested players on anyway, then I would often say play the strong team, get the game won and then take them off
But in Shelvey’s case coming on against tireder players negates his weakness and amplifies the effect of his strengths imo
