Football Debate Programmes
Football Debate Programmes
Just stopped listening to 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live it’s supposed to be a football debate but if you are not a premier league club and more so a top 6 club you rarely get a mention. We have just gone over 1000mins without conceding a goal yesterday we have just had a player racially abused by another player but not a word about anything. It will probably be the same on White & Jordan on talkSPORT tomorrow ( don’t listen to before 10 am) Evan Chelsea women get mentioned more than we do Talk about us and them. TalkSPORT should be renamed Talk Utd UTC Hopefully they will HAVE to talk about us soon

I was warned off the programme around 11 years ago. Nothing has changed.

Re: Football Debate Programmes
I cannot listen to 606.
It is supposed to be a phone-in show for football fans. It isn't that at all, it's simply Sutton and Savage arguing between themselves for the sake of it.
I used to enjoy listen to it in the car on the way back from Turf Moor when it was a serious football debate presented by people like David Mellor or Alan Green. Not any more...I listen to something else.

Re: Football Debate Programmes
When Danny Baker conceived the idea of 606 it was all about the irreverences of following a football team…the minutiae.. the fan experience. It was never about the game but about the ins and outs of being a football fan. Now it’s just a boring phone in with two ex pros with no presenting skill whatsoever.

Re: Football Debate Programmes
I’ve called in a few times and always have a decent chat with them two about Burnley. Ring in and have your say if you don’t want to them talk about the top 6 all the time.
Re: Football Debate Programmes
That's the main problem for me. It feels like 5Live are somehow doing it on the cheap by having Savage and Sutton and not a proper, bread and butter, balanced presenter who keeps it all together. Neither of them have the gravitas, charisma or skill required to present.Longsidebovril wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 9:48 pmwith two ex pros with no presenting skill whatsoever.

Hopefully we can avoid being mentioned on Talksport for the foreseeable future.
As for 606 - it’s not a football debate but a vehicle for the presenters to grace us with their erudite and perceptive comments about the top 6 - or as it’s more commonly known, fawning drivel.

Re: Football Debate Programmes
606 can be good , if the callers happen to be intelligent people with perceptive points to make. However too often it showcases utter f***wits and the producers and presenters seem incapable of exercising any quality control and getting shut of them.
Savage is awful too, wanting to start pathetic “feuds” with Sutton in a way that would embarrass a primary school kid. He misguidedly seems to think this will be entertaining.
I still listen to it though though my favourite football listen is the Monday Night Club , also on Radio 5.

You can get as much sense out of 2 twenty stoners down the pub. It’s all opinions and we all have them. They get paid the big bucks for being ex-pros but ex is all they are. Women are filling our screens more and more but there will be guys on here that have played a better standard with better coaching.
