General Info - Swansea (a)

Post by ClaretTony » Sun Feb 16, 2025 8:59 am

For any info ahead of the game at Swansea other than tickets and coach travel.

Links for these threads along with ticket info and Accy Clarets will be in the sticky post.

I'm not sure if this has been flagged elsewhere but....

It's the last round of the 6N rugby competition on 15th March- including Wales v England in Cardiff (k.o. 16.45).
This'll affect road traffic along the M4 (/South Wales generally) & train passenger volumes from the other side of the Severn a fair amount that morning/early afternoon.

Has anyone found any reasonable price train tickets?

I could only find 122 quid return from Manchester

Just looked on Trainline and you can get it for around £92. I don’t call that reasonable though.

Hotels in Swansea are ridiculously expensive that weekend.

Rossi’s Fish and Chips is close to the away end.

Vesuvio is a good place for lunch. Will need to book. This is near Rossi’s

We went down the M56/A483 a couple of years ago.
We found it to be quicker than the M5 option.

Any pub recommendations? Not been for a while, last time we called in somewhere between the ground and the station and had to keep our heads down as England were beating Wales in the rugby...wonder if history will repeat itself!

I think Spain would beat Wales at rugby at the moment .

Great night out is Swansea, Wind Street is where the main action is.

Was down there when Paul Clement thought they'd won the world cup with his on pitch celebrations.

If anyone is staying over and likes live music, I strongly recommend going to see Block 33 at the Bunkhouse on the Saturday night, particularly if you like the Jam/Oasis as they are the next band on the runway.

We did that route and the views over the mountains were stunning, it was such a clear day. We didn't go back that way, with no barriers on the roads, I wouldn't want to risk it at night. It doesn't take any longer either and knocks about 50 miles off the journey.

Probably going to go Heads of The Valleys, if only because it’s now finished.

Hi Pete,
How much are Accrington Clarets charging for return transport to Swansea?

Oh and have you any seats left?

For convenience there is a Harvester that people use for drinks opposite the club shop. Apart from that the ones near the stadium will all be for home fans. You could just drink in the city centre and walk or get a taxi to the stadium. Grand Hotel is opposite the station or just head down to Wind Street (wind as in “wind up a clock”) where you’ll be spoilt for choice. Come out of the train station and carry on straight ahead until you pass the “castle”. Wind Street starts there

Very scenic on a dry day.
This route will be the fastest from the North.

Advice would be to stop at Welshpool. Before the single lane mountain road.
There is a service station with Greg's mcD's and a Morrisons shop. And WC's After that there is not a lot until you hit Ammanford/m4 corridor.

M50 / M5 nothing in it. M5 is an easier drive.

Both will mean you have to do the Newport to Cardiff 50 mph average speed section. Be warned. There are static 50mph cameras both ways at Newport.

Thanks for the info on the motorway restrictions between Newport & Cardiff.

As for the mountain route - it was 2nd January 2023 and there was hardly a cloud so a fantastic journey over. But if it is a miserable day then I wouldn't recommend.

Yes, we did it in good time too. We stopped off at Builth Wells for a late breakfast and then drove through the Brecon Beacons. As you say the views were stunning. We kept saying that we would go down one time and walk up some of the mountains but still haven't got around to it yet.

Came up that route last week. Miserable day.
Almost 2 hours longer coming back on the motorways.

Having said that. After the game I would go back via the motorways as it will be much quieter later on.

We got a air bnb on the Gower £122 for 2 nights but nonsense rail fare made us decide to drive via Chester and mid Wales.

Drove down this afternoon, googlemaps kept re routing to avoid the Friday afternoon jams. Ended up M65, M6, M5, M50, cross country to Heads Of The Valleys Rd then dropping down into Neath. This was not the original route, that was M56 and down through Oswestry. 5 hours 30 with a detour to Costco Haydock to fill up and then a coffee at Strensham. No roadworks apart from the last 5 miles of the HOTVR, which isn’t finished, but is open….grrrrr.
