A bit of nostalgia - Preston to Wembley - 37 years on

Post by billyhamilton82 » Fri Feb 28, 2025 7:34 pm

Come on Burnley lets do it again and knock PNE out of another competition on our way to Wembley.

Especially for those no longer with us, who provided us with a very special slice of BFC history.

Burnley: Chris Pearce, Shaun McGrory, Ray Deakin, Ian Britton, Steve Davis, Steve Gardner, Andy Farrell (Phil Malley 78), George Oghani, Steve Taylor, Paul Comstive, Ashley Hoskin. Sub not used: Phil Devaney.

Never tire of watching this! Strangest bit is the Preston fans walking around the pitch after a brief invasion from the away end!

What an unforgettable night.
The wooden terracing was literally bouncing.....worked with some PNE fans who had already booked their hotels for Wembley :)

Brilliant memories of that night.
I'm still gutted for Ashley Hoskin that he was an unused sub at Wembley.

It makes me laugh how Preston hold the Town End as some sacred place and one of the great ‘ends’ of English football, conveniently forgetting they housed away fans in it for a substantial number of years!

Good job no VAR for either of the 2nd and 3rd goals!!!

Proper just kick it in the f’in net, and offside overruled by the ref…………..

A sign of how football has changed that Ray Deakin drove our bus on a junior school trip and Steve Gardner was my boss in a factory summer job I had. I think Ray may even have still been a Burnley player at the time.

Not much money in fourth division football back then.
