Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
Mad how sensitive people get about the latest manager the club we support employs. He's not your dad. Parker has done exactly what you'd expect him to do. We're very boring - we are - and we just about get the results our wage bill would suggest. He doesn't add much value but he's certainly not incompetent.
But loyalty aside, I can't believe there's many people who'd want to watch one of his teams next season if we don't go up. It'll be exactly the same football but with considerably less able players. Parkerball when you're 14th in the league isn't what anyone wants to see. No idea on Lampard, although he's started well before, then faded away.

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
I preferred Lampard at the time, and that hasn't really changed - think he would have brought a better style and energy to the club. And he's showing with Cov that he can get results. SAYING that, Parker has dealt with a tricky situation well, in terms of squad player turnover, made us a proper unit in terms of team structure and has us right in the mix. He comes across well too and handles situations calmly, e.g. Hannibal incident. Hopefully he can get the job done.

Can’t see the fans sticking with his style of play of we don’t go up. Not a chance.

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
It was never an either or out of these two for me.
To be fair to SP he is so far doing the job I expected him to do. We are in the mix and I still think he will get us up. It has been by and large exactly what I expected.
If we go up I expect him to last 15-20 games before he walks or is sacked. If he doesn't get us up then I expect he will be gone.
He handles situations well and seems good with players but the style of play is by and large snoozable.
I wanted Potter or Moyes but I guess they were bigger than us.

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
Feels wrong to say it again, but yes I’d have had Lampard over Parker and I said it at the time.
They’re both doing a decent job in different circumstances and it’s probably promotion or bust for Parker, but Coventry under Lampard are currently a better watch than us.
I hope we get a good performance tonight.

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
Lampard would have done well with our original squad as we had goals all over the pitch! O'Shea, Vitinho, Amdouni, Odobert, JBG, Zaroury, Weghorst... I don't think it's an exaggeration to suggest we'd be at least 10 points clear now had we kept that team together.
Whether he would have done as well with the current crop is debatable. Parker deserves a lot of credit for how he managed that period. It would have been easy for him to throw his toys our of the pram given how late the deals happened. He's galvanised the squad and found a way of grinding out results. It's not been pretty, but it's clear we lost the majority of our attacking threat in the last week of the transfer window. We've had to build from the back, and he's done that exceptionally well.

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
I think that is a very fair assessment. I've said before, had Parker been able to keep that squad together I reckon we would already be promoted and undefeated.jlup1980 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 12:25 pmLampard would have done well with our original squad as we had goals all over the pitch! Building a strong spine and defence is always the best way to rebuild. Again I have said before I think there is a lot of similarities between the Parker rebuild and the early days of Dyche's reign. Not always pretty but pretty effective and a good base to build from. The last couple of league games have shown signs of that progression but we need to see more of it and for a full game too.
Lampard strikes me as very much a Coyle-esque style manager. Good to have when you have some talent up front and again man when things are going well.

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
I hoped for Moyes, and wouldn’t have been upset with Lampard. Scott Parker I was less inclined towards and was a little underwhelmed. I was delighted by the performance at Luton (who wasn’t). However since the upheaval, for me it was clear we needed to build from the back and work forward. It has been a longer process than I hoped… I expected the brake to come off by Christmas. I put this down to getting the club mentality throughout the squad rather than just the team so it becomes second nature, I think this puts us in a good place for next season given a full pre-season, obviously this is intended to be back in the Premier League.
It has been a hard watch but Parker has massively gone up in my estimation and as long as the team continues to push on as has been the case the last few weeks in the league, not only do I remain optimistic of promotion but I think we will be the best prepared of those getting promoted to hold our own at the higher level. I think the view has been long term rather than plaudits and frustrating as it is I applaud him for that.

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
I think Parker is sacked if we don’t go up this season, I’d like Danny Rohl in. We have to be ruthless we can’t just accept a year of failure from Parker because he’s a nice guy.

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
Been impressed with Rohl from what I’ve seen of him, but Southampton seem to be eyeing him up already. Not that I share your opinion re-SP I expect he will be given the opportunity to start next season, either way (and I still think he will get us up).

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
We may well have been clear at the top, but we'll never know. What we do know is we couldn't afford that team in the Championship. The wage bill would have been astronomical. The squad was far too big and we likely still owed a fortune on the players we signed last season. There's no way Parker took the job not knowing there'd be some big changes by the end of August.jlup1980 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 12:25 pmLampard would have done well with our original squad as we had goals all over the pitch! We've still got a squad that's more than capable at this level that fans of pretty much every other club other than the top two would be desperate for. The players themselves have gone on record since the August upheaval and said the internal expectation was to be champions. Parker doesn't need people to make excuses for him. We're doing ok, and could fall either side of the line of success and failure. Which seems to be about par for the course. But his style of play will be a huge stick to beat him with if he ultimately fails.

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
I genuinely can't see any alternative. He was a gamble and if it doesn't work, somebody (Pace) will need to accept that and act.
Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
Now who would have anticipated this thread degenerating into one where the anti Parker brigade share their hopes that he will be sacked some time soon.
Here’s hoping for 3 points tonight and a quiet message board. All the doom gets tiresome.
I can’t be bothered quoting whoever posted something along the lines of Parker getting us up and going after 15 games, shame Kompany didn’t go after 15 PL games, we might not be in position of slating a manager for getting us into 3rd in the table with every chance of promotion.

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
Why do you keep commenting on every topic about this imaginary anti Parker brigade? So weird. I don’t care who the manager is this season, if we don’t go up, he’s failed and should be replaced.NL Claret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 2:05 pmNow who would have anticipated this thread degenerating into one where the anti Parker brigade share their hopes that he will be sacked some time soon.

Nearly wee’d then…

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
Can you please show me where I have made comments that include “anti Parker brigade”? I doubt you will be able to.
Every topic? Have you considered thinking before posting?
So I can add weird to being stupid too. And that comes from a poster who hopes we lose games.

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
No idea what that means.
We have better players than 99% of teams in this division, I believe we would have less 0-0 draws if we really released the handbrake at moments and went after teams. I don’t want to see Trafford time wasting all game like he was at Fratton Park, go get at them and impose our will and individual quality.
Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
Ok, let me get this right, it is okay for you to make things up?
If you dig your hole any deeper you won’t be able to get out of it.

Re: Fat Frank or Sleepy Scott?
His style of play will certainly come in for criticism if we don't find a way to play against more physical opposition. The PNE game at the weekend and the second half tonight show we just aren't up for the fight when a team decides to press us with intensity, and / or go long, and get balls into the box. We could easily have conceded 4 tonight against an average Cardiff team. We didn't, but Parker needs to find a way to combat this type of opponent.ChorltonCharlie wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 1:34 pmWe may well have been clear at the top, but we'll never know.
