The reality, perspective!!
Re: The reality, perspective!!
21 goalscorers this season (excluding own goals). It seems a lot but is explained by the fact several players who departed just before the window shut scored against Luton or Cardiff.

Souza went off at half time with a hammy, he will probably miss the next 2 at least.

Off course there could be some freak results but looking at there fixtures they have got a fantastic run in. From the looks of it they only have 4 teams in the top half of the table and only two in the play offs.
I’m still hopeful we do it. But a lot will depend on whether they have a couple of freak results.

Haha I’m the clown you’re bringing up points from three years ago as some kind of argument.
Grow up Taio. If we are not allowed to talk about our rivals games and prospects there is no point to this forum.
Re: The reality, perspective!!
You are naive. Games are not won on paper. What does this actually mean: 'there’s only two games where they might not win'? They might not win on Tuesday or next weekend.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 9:43 amHaha I’m the clown you’re bringing up points from three years ago as some kind of argument.

That’s why I said I think that, it’s my opinion.
Are we now not allowed opinions on rival teams?

Re: The reality, perspective!!
This is the top 3 if the FORM stays the same as per the last ten games.
Obviously, it's all just nonsense and you can drag data up to fit a variety of narratives. I just found it interesting.
Sheffield United 100
Leeds 99
Burnley 96
Sheffield United's total points over the last 10 games is 24, Leeds' 23 and Burnley's is 22
Re: The reality, perspective!!
Form for the last 6 would have us up automatically with Leeds finishing third. Largely irrelevant though.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 6:03 pmThis is the top 3 if the FORM stays the same as per the last ten games.

Re: The reality, perspective!!
What about the other 4 games though?
The last ten is kind of relevant, due to their being ten left.
OF COURSE, You don’t play games from form. It’s just interesting.

The last six games has the same relevance, or irrelevance, by extrapolating points per game.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 6:19 pmWhat about the other 4 games though?

The reality is, win the last 10 games and we are promoted, end of.....unlikely to happen this way but you just never know. All we can do now is be the positive 12th man starting on Tuesday......

We've got this!!!
If you are Leeds and Sheff U looking at us on your shoulder you are nervous winning ugly (Cardiff) scoring rate has improved and other than one conceded at Cardiff defence is looking strong.
If I was either of them two.... I'd be nervous.

This site seems to think we'll be champions.
They're expecting Leeds to win 7 and draw 3, Sheff Utd to win 6 draw 3 and lose 1 and Burnley to win 10.
Not sure how they work that out but I'd settle for that.

Let’s go for that. It could be one of the most memorable ends to a season ever.

I'm all for that. I think it's quite conceivable we could remain undefeated ti the end of the season. And now we are scoring more maybe we might? We went 10 wins o the bounce under VK
Re: The reality, perspective!!
Looking at our fixtures. It looks like 4 of the last 5 will be against teams with nothing to play for. I'd take that over teams at the bottom fighting for their lives any day.
Re: The reality, perspective!!
Surely though that would depend on their result against us.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 6:03 pmThis is the top 3 if the FORM stays the same as per the last ten games.

That's not particularly fantastic. On a purely average basis, they would be expected to play 2 in the play-offs and 5 in the top half, so it's pretty near the average.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 9:42 amOff course there could be some freak results but looking at there fixtures they have got a fantastic run in. The thread started off questioning whether our lack of goalscoring was going to cost us automatic promotion. Are we now saying that that is no longer going to be an issue. Certainly we are scoring more goals now.

Re: The reality, perspective!!
No.
Because if we are one of their two defeats, the points will still be the same over the course of the 10 games if the next ten games match up with the last ten based off the form.
We will draw more, they win more, despite two losses, they would still get more points than us.

People feel free to write down how many goals are in this team.
Discounting the first two games, we have 50 at most.
Thats not Parker’s fault.
It is what it is.
It’s not a style of play, nor how they set up, just a fact we don’t have enough players who can score goals.
Go on list the players and goals they will get, let’s see if anyone can get over 50.?
Is that 66 goals scored now with a home game to go ? Nearly every player has scored

While it is childish (and amusing) I do admire the dedication to digging these threads out. Some of our more relentless moaners and armchair critics really have some lessons to learn. Of course, we all know they won't do that.

It’s been a great laugh this time. Always get a bit worried I might’ve contributed when one crops up though

It’s less a lesson for the critics - they’ll continue - and more a lesson for the majority that read these threads not to take any notice of them.

Re: The reality, perspective!!
I remember being described as wonderfully optimistic when I listed players and areas of the field I thought would get the number of goals we have got. Of course I didn't get it spot on, especially with Foster. The point being that we were capable of scoring and this needed saying then and now.
I'm going to resist the '0-0 results were going to cost us' posts other than to say that following the 0-0 against Preston on 15th Feb we have played 12 league games and the only 0-0 was against Derby away.. Even then after the Derby result people were bleating about it.

Some Big Hitters who are Burnley fans who like to have a go been missing for a bit. Hope they are all OK.
Won't be long until it's more of a challenge next season and they can come back and criticise all things Burnley; Mr Pace + board, the players and definitely the manager.
Get behind the team folks, honestly it feels so much better when you do. Travelling North on the train and it's a great atmosphere after another special away day.

Re: The reality, perspective!!
I don’t mind admitting that I have been highly critical of certain performances earlier in the season especially some of the 0-0’s which were simply not entertaining to watch at all in my opinion.
I make no apologies for being critical because personally I do expect a certain level of entertainment when paying good money to travel and watch games. Others may see this differently and that’s fair enough.
However, huge credit is due to Parker, his staff and players for both the ridiculous defensive effort and for peaking performance wise over the past few months whilst others have wilted. Fingers crossed we can beat Millwall to win the league again.
One thing that I have learned from this season is to try to be more patient by accepting it’s not always going to go our way, even in a league which we have dominated for several seasons now. With that in mind, I hope Parker and Pace are able to bring in the reinforcements needed to at least give us a fighting chance next season without tearing apart the unity developed the way VK inexplicably did last season.
Onwards and upwards and here’s to a 17th place finish or higher if possible next season! UTC

No correctly called out on Dyche. I've said before that I work for the EU and my daily interactions just confirm that belief. It is easy to have an ideological view of Brexit, and I respect that view. But if you actually had a closer look at how the EU works, you would find rampant nepotism and waste.LoveCurryPies wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 6:35 pmStill feel this way? The UK is the envy of most political leaders in the EU because it can dictate its policies without having to compromise or UVL shoving her euro mega state policies down their throats.

Some of the willy waving brigade are already feeling the effects of the sun & we haven't even reached midday. Enjoy the promotion now isn't the time to snipe enough will be going on next season.
Re: The reality, perspective!!
This season seems a bit of an outlier in terms of goals scored. Is it the way teams are coached nowadays? Or a lack of decent strikers at this level?
The top 8 last season scored over 70 goals, whereas we currently are 3rd in the table on goals scored with 66
What I will say (as others have done), is that as fans we sometimes need to be a bit more patient. We've all been guilty of this over the season.
Pires, Hannibal, CJ, Anthony to name but a few are just a few examples of lads who started off slowly, but have improved over time.
There has also been a marked improvement on team work ethic and structure over the second half of the season, and it has been a bit of an enlightening season for me to see this unfold.

Look at history of the championship. You need 70-80 goals to be in the top two.
Will we be OK with 66 and third highest scorers?
