We still have 7 of the current top 12 teams to play - 5 of them at home
Leeds have 3 of the same teams to play with 2 at home
Sheff Utd have 4 of the same teams to play with 3 at home
By the same token they have more games left against bottom half clubs
Still a tough ask - starting tonight

I see that as a positive as they will both have more chance of playing teams fighting for their lives whist we may very well play teams that having nothing to play for towards the end of the season

I think only Swansea, QPR and Millwall will have nothing to play for. All 7 others could either get automatic, playoffs or relegationThe Shire Claret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 11:12 amI see that as a positive as they will both have more chance of playing teams fighting for their lives whist we may very well play teams that having nothing to play for towards the end of the season

I admire your optimism but it really is too close to call when we’re not even favourite for an automatic spot. The Shire Claret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 11:12 amI

It really is not the exact science the OP portrays. There will be surprise results between now and the end of the season. As shown by Leeds last result.

Re: 10 games left
The big difference is with Leeds. They have to play only Bristol City and Middlesbrough from the promotion chasing pack.
Sheffield Utd have to play 5 of the top half, not 4 (B,BC,CovC,BR,Millwall) and have an away game at Sheff Wed, who are 13th. N ot such a difference there.
The biggest difference IMO is that we have almost finished with the relegation candidates. If we split the table into three, 1-9 (down to Middlesbrough) going for promotion, 10-17 (Norwich to Portsmouth) the lump in the middle, and 18-24 (Oxford downwards) looking to avoid relegation, then the figures are:
Leeds 2 promotion, 4 lump, 4 relegation
Sheff U 4 promotion, 2 lump, 4 relegation
Burnley 4 promotion, 5 lump, 1 relegation.
So Leeds however which way you turn it have the easiest schedule, but I think I would fancy playing the mid-table sides rather than the relegation-threatened sides at this point. So we aren't disadvantaged vis-a-vis Sheff U.

Re: 10 games left
Unless Leeds' heads have gone, they should be fine looking at their fixtures.
Sheffield United's run in far less straightforward. One of those lower half games is a derby away to Sheff Wed, only bottom half on goal difference. 3 away games at relegation threatened teams fighting for their lives.

Everything considered, the fans of all three clubs are all going to be feeling nervous. I know I certainly am, but looking forward to cheering the lads on tonight. COYC!

Re: 10 games left
If the next 10 go FOR THE ENTIRE LEAGUE excactly like the last 10 went, we will still be third, regardless of if we beat Sheffield United.
Obviously doesn't work like that, but, it's not going to be easy.

Re: 10 games left
if we match sheff utd's results and beat them then we get promoted its as simple as that ,
just need to keep winning where we can and not losing then we will be fine.
Leeds look like they might be having a wobble and it will be getting in their heads , remember 2 games ago they were 5 points clear of Sheff utd and 7 clear of us now its down to 2 to us and level with sheff utd if they dont win their next game and end up in 3rd after this round of games then it will really start to bother them !!!
oh and we have a far superior goal difference to Sheff utd - 15 i think and as for us not scoring many goals we have scored 49 sheff utd 51 !!!

The Championship can throw up all sorts of anomalies. The run in won't go exactly to plan for any of the top three. It's simply a case of whether we can have less bumps than the others. Win tonight, move on... that's the mantra!!dsr wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 12:18 pmThe big difference is with Leeds. Nerves can kick in at this stage, and there's no doubt that last season will be playing on the minds of the Leeds players and management now. If Sheff U and us win again tonight it puts the pressure on Leeds to get a result vs Millwall tomorrow, which will be easier said than done.
Re: 10 games left
Playing teams around the middle of the table becomes a huge positive by the end of the season. Looking at our last 5 fixtures it looks like we could have a few of those

Re: 10 games left
I think we are reading too much into it all. In this league, at this stage, anything can happen. Obviously I'd rather play Plymouth than Sheff Utd. But we've beaten Sheff Utd this season. And taken 4 pts from Leeds. But only 2 from Preston. And drawn at home against both Derby and QPR. I don't think the general run in opposition matters, other than when we play direct rivals in 6 pointers (ie Sheff U), or to put table position pressure on rivals by getting ahead of them when we can. So whoever we were to play tonight, it's a massive game
And WBA are no mugs. They have some real quality for the level of this league. We need to be absolutely on it tonight. The advantage for us is that Mowbray is probably a bit more adventurous than Corberan, and that might allow us space to play through, similar to Hull at home a few weeks ago. But they also have the quality to hurt us, and if they go ahead, will stand a chance of holding tight. They haven't forgotten how to defend just because they have a new manager

Big difference is we now have injured players back and Edwards who looks to have us put us up another level.
All starting to come together.

Re: 10 games left
Sheffield Utd have to come to us and they have the away derby fixture this Sunday at Wednesday (that really does make sense!) and derby games are a different thing to regular league games. Wednesday aren't in great form, but you'd have to expect them to raise their game in front of their own fans against their neighbours!

Re: 10 games left
10 games are a lot of games to look back on to compare form ,if you compare the last 6 I think if that was continued until the end of the season then we’d beat Sheff Utd .ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 1:30 pmIf the next 10 go FOR THE ENTIRE LEAGUE excactly like the last 10 went, we will still be third, regardless of if we beat Sheffield United.

Re: 10 games left
Teams with little or no pressure on them are the worst to play.
We'll be fine.
We'll be fine.
Re: 10 games left
If Sheffield United are happy with a draw, which they will be, then they will get a draw. It's been a common theme this year, as it is in the game in general, that when both sides are happy with a point it is likely to be 0-0.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 5:23 pmSheffield Utd have to come to us and they have the away derby fixture this Sunday at Wednesday (that really does make sense!) and derby games are a different thing to regular league games. This, IMO we need to be ahead of them before we play them.
