Switching Wings

Has it become unfashionable for the players to swap wings? we sometimes bring a sub on for a winger and swap one to accommodate the sub ,but seeing as Anthony can play down either flank wouldn’t it be worth moving Edwards over occasionally to give the defenders something different to think about before we decide to take one off.

I was thinking exactly that on Tuesday.

Styles was extremely comfortable with Edwards and it seemed blindingly obvious it had to be tried.

When I wer a lad if John Connelly was up against a tough winger he soon used to swap wings will Pilky ,Anthony works really well with Roberts and as he showed on Tuesday he’s good at cutting inside when he hit the bar and I’m sure Edwards and Pires could be just as effective on the right with their tricky ball skills.

Agree the management team will have to start thinking outside the box as WBA will be in the play offs. If we also end up in the play offs meeting them again and given the 2 draws this season, I would not want to be dragged into the dreaded penalty shoot out.

When I first started watching the Clarets in the mid sixties it seemed a regular practice every game for Ralph Coates and Willie Morgan to switch wings once or twice in the 90 minutes.

I agree but Trafford could be a Trump card for us in the play-offs should we find ourselves in a shoot-out.

I wouldn't mind Edwards going in the 10 at times either if hes getting marked out of it out wide. But swapping wings fine too, give the defenders a different headache.

Since Tuesday this mythical idea has reappeared that we just pass the ball at the back and don’t attack.

Comments about the management team thinking outside the box, another about thinking inside the box. You wouldn’t think Burnley are the highest scorers in the league over last 5 games. Feels like some are stuck in the past and haven’t moved on.
