Dodged the RVN bullet
BBC posting that Leicester have set a new record under RVN.
7 consecutive home losses without scoring a single goal: https://x.com/BBCMOTD/status/1901386441038479369
We thought Parkerball was boring.

Re: Dodged the RVN bullet
Look at the difference with Kompany when we got to the PL.
The two leagues are miles apart in terms of quality, so we have no idea whether RVN would've been any good managing us at Championship level.

Weren't setting similar records under Kompany
The Premier League is a different world to the Championship as we found out last season and will find out again if we are promoted

Re: Dodged the RVN bullet
I was at Leicester last night. Absolutely no belief or confidence in any of the Leicester players. Its as if with about 8/9 games to go that they are all resigned to being relegated. They literally could not put more than 4-5 passes together , and often went backwards. That includes Jamie Vardy who led the line alone again.THey are just not managed or have the players for a dog-fight. Have to say Man Utd were very poor-possibly the worst Man Utd side I have seen in 30 or more years. RVN comes out with absolute drivel in his interviews. A huge string of losses and no goals and he plays the same 11 week in week out, with the same bench. They have Eduard for example on the bench on loan since August on a supposed £80k a week and has made just 4 appearances including subs appearances in that time. Palace refused to have him back in January. They have other players on big wages and long contracts . Can pretty well guarantee RVN will not be there in August. This is a club notorious for their players going straight to the Chairman expressing dislike of the manager. The club needs someone like Dyche (if he is prepared to rebuild his career) to be appointed the moment the final game is played. I have no doubt he can rebuild this club using his contacts to bring in some seasoned players and to bring on an amazing amount of young talented players, before they are poached. Would suit SD down to the ground, and to answer the opening post YES we dodged a massive bullet. Well done the Burnley Board

There was a weird amount of eulogising about a pretty unproven manager with a minimal and average track record.

Re: Dodged the RVN bullet
Cooper had them outside the relegation zone, which is all we need in a first season back in the PL.
It is achievable with a certain playstyle - Luton nearly did it last season!

Take your point but the example you offer of Luton last season will soon be two seasons ago. That's a 'long time' in the history of a league that moves on with rapidity of an unprecedented nature. Had a quick glance at the league and the promoted three are drifting further and further away.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 3:11 pmCooper had them outside the relegation zone, which is all we need in a first season back in the PL.

Re: Dodged the RVN bullet
Dyche learned the hard way what it takes to give yourself a much better chance of staying up after promotion (no guarantees) and therefore at the second attempt he got it right. After that you can start to build a team/squad/club that's got a more than decent chance of avoiding the drop year on year and can begin to look increasingly comfortable (Fulham , Palace, Brighton, Bournemouth, Forest etc) We'd reached that point through a lot of extremely hard work under SD, but then we threw it away with some dreadful transfer windows and under Kompany we didn't get that critical first season even remotely right, which surprised me tbh because surely nobody knows what's required to survive in the PL more than a previous winner like Kompany.

Re: Dodged the RVN bullet
I don't think two seasons is that long ago in football tbh. The formula (as it is in all sports) remains the same: exploit matchups in your favour.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 4:05 pmTake your point but the example you offer of Luton last season will soon be two seasons ago. When playing against teams with better technical players, we have to maximize our chances of winning a game by exposing any opponent's vulnerabilities.
In our recruitment approach, this means getting the best 'bang for your buck' players and acquiring those with specific skill sets to target these weaknesses.
Chris Wood, both now for Forest and when he was playing for us, is a perfect example of this type of player. He's effective because of his physical presence, aerial ability, close-range finishing and positional awareness. He causes huge problems for the modern top-flight defender who isn't used to dealing with traditional target men of his ilk, where as say, Zeki Amdouni, and our playstyle last season was just a poor imitation of the best players and teams in the top flight.
Ipswich is a different beast altogether, their starting point was miles behind ours due to their back-to-back promotions.
A player like a prime Didier Drogba is an absolute game-wrecker because he had no flaws as a striker. He was brilliant in all departments, strong, quick, and a bloody good footballer as well.

It was obvious RVN would be garbage at least in my mind

As boring as Parkerball is, i think his approach would be more successful in the Premier League compared to RVN or Vinny's approach.

RVN is the most recent of ex Manure players who thought they'd make decent managers

Re: Dodged the RVN bullet
There's the rub though, Kompany had no idea about managing a struggling club in a relegation battle, his success came as a player at a club with unlimited resources. Same applies to RVN, who had no management experience whatsoever.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 4:44 pmwhich surprised me tbh because surely nobody knows what's required to survive in the PL more than a previous winner like Kompany.

Re: Dodged the RVN bullet
I might be in the minority but I think Amdouni has the qualities to succeed in the PL, he just needs the right system to allow him to flourish. He was thrown into the deep end last season, as was most of our squad if we're honest. If you had Amdouni playing as a number 10 in a team like our current one I suggest we'd see a different beast. There was no structure to the team under VK and he wasn't the only one who looked lost as a result. With a solid, dependable team around him, you could afford to give him freedom to roam, find pockets of space, and create opportunities.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 7:54 pmChris Wood, both now for Forest and when he was playing for us, is a perfect example of this type of player. I agree on the Chris Wood comment though, 100%. He was, and remains, a handful. The lad at Cardiff could be worth a look. He's taken to the Championship very well, is 6'5", and looks a real handful too.

On Amdouni I remain to be convinced that he has the physical attributes to make it in the PL. Robbie Blake was a fantastic player but even his skill level was not enough to compensate. The physical demands on all players in the PL are huge
