Sheffield United v Coventry City...
Re: Sheffield United v Coventry City...
We sold our best players, they bought the best players in the Championship. Lots of people suggest Sheff U are worse than us, they are not.

Further evidence of how crap this league is.Woonderbah wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 9:33 pmThis Coventry side is somehow in the play-off places and yet their points total is closer to the relegation zone than top of the table.. I just hope they're this bad when we play them.

Lampard definitely got his team selection and tactics wrong tonight.agreenwood wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 8:45 pmCoventry’s defence are getting no protection from their midfield.

Fat Frank should have parked the bus for this one but he was like Vinny in the Prem, no plan B.
Looks like Pace played a blinder not giving him the job but lets get next week out of the way before we make firm conclusions.

Re: Sheffield United v Coventry City...
We really need the 3 points tomorrow, otherwise the top 2 becomes a tall order.

We need to focus on what we do and aim to win the last eight games. That's all our club can do.

We should be so lucky to come up against a non existent Coventry midfield in a weeks time.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 9:43 pmCredit Sheff Utd, they've won this without even bossing it.![]()

Re: Sheffield United v Coventry City...
Win tomorrow nothing changes it’s just another game down and we’re still in striking distance of Sheff United. Hopefully we fly out with a point to prove tomorrow before it’s our turn to be the early kick off next week.

He might be a late bloomer like Solanke. He struggled for quite a while and then just suddenly started looking good. They wouldn't still be at Liverpool if they were totally useless.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 10:19 pmTo be fair to Sheff Utd they've shown a lot of faith and patience to Brewster and may yet see the benefit.

Brewster has scored less than 20 goals in 6 seasons. He’s 25 next week.
Even if he is a “better buy than Tresor”, I don’t think he’s getting a statue built anywhere anytime soon.

We absolutely dominated them on their own patch. When at it there is no better team in the league than us. We just need to keep up our form and there’s nothing for worry about

Sheff Utd looked a Premier League team in waiting tonight. In the next two games Burnley need to match that level of performance as against the 4th-10th place team they've often struggled and drawn too many
Re: Sheffield United v Coventry City...
Apparently Brewster has 8 goals in 100 appearances for Sheffield United.
What made them part with £23 million?

Re: Sheffield United v Coventry City...
You should not ridicule players from the opposition particularly citing high cost and lack of return, when we have worse in our camp.Just a reminder for you. Brewster might well prove the catylyst that gets Sheff Utd over the line in which case his previous stats will be immaterial to their fansagreenwood wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 10:32 pmWell, congrats on mentioning Tresor on a thread about Sheffield United and Coventry.

Re: Sheffield United v Coventry City...
They won a home game comfortably against a playoff side, I'm disappointed but not surprised. I still think they'll drop points away, and at less likely places where lower teams are scrapping. Lots of twists in the tail yet but we could really do with winning tomorrow

Agreed-few more twists and it will go down to the wire, and possibly one team might miss auto with record pointswillsclarets wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 10:44 pmThey won a home game comfortably against a playoff side, I'm disappointed but not surprised. In comparison Lyle Foster has 8 goals in 59 games for us.

I think that was a red on the Cov keeperCrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 8:37 pmCoventry rubbish, as is the ref (again).
Player kicks out late at keeper, keeper stretchered off, ref missed it. Was a yellow.
Back to Coventry, big difference between hoovering up little teams and us at the top. They are high tempo but it leads to errors and they are getting picked off. Very much hope we do the same next week.

Re: Sheffield United v Coventry City...
I know what you mean, Robbie, but the problem is that if we don't go up this season or next, the probable only way out of the Championship will be to League 1.

If I knew we would get promoted within 2 years then I’d be getting the jelly and ice cream out if we avoid promotion in May
Re: Sheffield United v Coventry City...
We need to win all our remaining games to finish above Sheff Utd now I can't see them not winning all there's apart from the game against us, they've an easy run in.
Between us and Leeds for second now I think and we've the tougher run

Looks like refs have changed the rules to allow free kicks to be taken from anywhere now… this following the West Brom one against us a few weeks back:

I think we would struggle to go up next year given the sides coming down from the Prem and the likelihood of two big spenders, Birmingham and Wrexham coming up from League One.

Re: Sheffield United v Coventry City...
I think next year we'd compete. We'd probably sell esteve and Trafford for 60 million plus. Beyer is just about the best replacement at this level you could have but we'd need to get it right on the GK. But if we weren't to go up next season you start to worry.Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 7:37 amI think we would struggle to go up next year given the sides coming down from the Prem and the likelihood of two big spenders, Birmingham and Wrexham coming up from League One.

Re: Sheffield United v Coventry City...
I don't think it's a given sheff united win their away games against teams scrapping at the bottom. Of the teams we've played recently I thought Cardiff gave us a real game and we were lucky to win. Stoke and Plymouth both likely desperate for points when they play them. On paper you'd say easy sheff united win, but as the saying goes the game isn't played on paper.
