Mentioned yesterday that Gillingham in 95/96 hold the current record with 29 clean sheets and 20 goals conceded overall.

It was Tony Pulis who was manager and the Gillingham team had the following reported in the media:

"an army of six-footers able to belt the ball into orbit and tackle themselves into a frenzy" and stated that their approach to the game was effective but unattractive to watch and had "no craft, no flair, no guile"

Google the table from that 53-54 season
Scunthorpe were called Scunthorpe and Lindsey United becoming Scunthorpe Utd in 1958
Also noticed Workington Town in Div 3 N and I remember them replacing New Brighton in 1951.
Eleven clubs from that season now non-league but only 3 from Division 3 South with none from the north in the Prem but 5 from that year in the Southern section, although of those 5 two wont be in it much longer (Southampton and Ipswich)

It depends on what question it was asked and how it was phrased. The current season is not yet a matter of historic record and therefore marry not appear in some searches relating to the past tense questions.

AI is only as good as the data set it interrogates and the precision of the user. Is what my robot overlords told me to say....

I have said this a few times to people. At this stage, there's as much chance of us winning the league as there is of us being knocked out in the semi finals of the playoffs. Think Brighton in 2016 (there's probably been others but thats the one that springs to mind).

Well, not exactly, but I see why you would say that.

However, you can’t finish 4th, 5th, and 6th in the same season.

So, based on your 20 year timeline, finishing 3rd results in promotion 45% of the time and is 9 times more likely to result in promotion than 6th. You have a 30% and 20% chance of promotion from 4th and 5th respectively.

Or to put it another way, yes, let’s win the league!

Depends how you interpret the stats.
You've a lot more chance of winning the Play-offs if you finish 3rd than any of 4th, 5th, or 6th, as prof pointed out above.

What would be more interesting, but probably more difficult to find out, is how often the team finishing 3rd had gone up via the play-offs when they’d missed out on automatic promotion on the last day of the season.

Rare was probably the wrong word to use but the stats prove more play off winners come from 4-6th than 3rd

Interestingly, it appears that the team finishing fourth is the next best, followed by the team finishing fifth. Perhaps surprisingly the team finishing sixth is the least likely to win the play offs because they are the poorest team in the play offs.

I've never said anything about finishing in all three positions, I've said more play off winners have come from teams not finishing 3rd there is no fishing rod it's just a very simple straight forward stat
