Unless you can turn the clock back 30 years and leave the Longside standing or make a better job of the ground redevelopment then the atmosphere isn`t coming back unfortunately. Everything about the modern match day experience is aimed at creating a wacky warehouse, family fun day type of atmosphere. Can you imagine all that rubbish at Fratton Park or the Den?
^^^^^^
This perfectly sums up the modern game . We don’t need telling when to cheer or how to celebrate. Unless we have the whole CFS with rail /standing or the whole lower longside ( with CFS all away) we’ll never get the singers /occasional singers together in numbers in the first place .

The frustration is that it has been rocking on rare occasions. Just need to the longside to get going more. Maybe safe standing at the back there will possibly bring it back? Can be a really good atmosphere if everyone has a go

Would love rail seating in the Longside Upper. Do half the section closest to the CFS. Really do think that would help the atmosphere.

Burnley Longside chant is something that can be sustained so could form the backbone for constant noise. Unfortunately, not enough are joining in at the minute. For the VK season we grew the repertoire with player songs. Think we need just more about the club in general.

The goal music is proper shite. The music at the end of the Luton game damaged a moment of bonding between crowd and team. Barnes scoring against Kaminski and some shite that Norwich use is bunged on. The people involved are not sensing what the crowd are feeling.

I actually think when the atmosphere was good it spread around the ground better before Burnley fans went in the cricket field. With the very rare exception rest of the ground is dead now.

Agree with this. When the north stand had a few at the back generating the noise it definitely spread better. The cricket field only really sounds loud if you’re in there or facing it. So it’s hard for the other stands to join in

Lots of passing about, doesn't create atmosphere. I have never changed at chess.

Shots, near misses, crosses that have a chance, all add to the excitement. Passing round and round is the antidote to excitement.

Getting stuffed at home nearly every week in the EPL is the antidote to atmosphere.

Not really sure what some of our fans want anymore - they don’t like it if we pass it round and some complained about a more direct style.

People often refer back to the time under Coyle and I agree that was a period of some of the best atmospheres I have personally experienced at the club. I’m not really sure how you recreate that now - it was just a time when the stars aligned. It didn’t last that long and as we soon found out the manager wasn’t that good and to be honest neither were the players (compared to many that followed under SD, VK etc)

I agree that the owners do not get the club and there is little worse than trying to create an artificial atmosphere with stupid gimmicks.

The current player turnover model does not help either. How any of them can become fans favourites when they are unlikely to be at the club longer than 12 or 18 months I’m not sure.

But as with most things why things change or are different to previous times is next down to one single thing. Society has changed. The vast majority of other football clubs and fans also complain that the atmosphere has gradually deteriorated. Many point to increased corporate hospitality, all seater stadiums, supporters with a greater sense of entitlement, overseas owners, a greater disconnection with the players, money ruining the game, VAR, etc etc etc

What fans want is Tempo.

Tuchel just talked about the English style, the intensity and physicality of our leagues. That’s also what generates our atmosphere. On 70 minutes last Tuesday we wanted a switch flicked and players suddenly busting a gut, gambling to get that extra 2 points, it doesn’t happen under Parker. He tells them to stay patient, keep to what they are doing.

The players do try, Anthony was waving his arms at the BLS stand the other night, but the tempo this season is in fits and starts. Edwards tries to do it, whenever he gets the ball he tries to inject some urgency and I start to rise from my seat, I hope to dear God he doesn’t get that trained out of him.

Unrelated - others have mentioned it, but the other atmosphere killer (other than silly music, badly designed stands and boring football) is our players suddenly standing in the middle for 5 minutes at the end of a game. If they left the pitch quicker after a win, with a jog and a few fist pumps to fans, while the fans are all still there, that would make a big difference to that “vibe” at the end of a game, which the players would then carry with them into the next. I try to linger with my family but end up giving up as we have a long drive. As it is, players depart to a nearly empty ground, we are obviously all wanting to get on the road before an extra 30 minute traffic jams, that won’t ever change.

If they read this board, get rid of the shite goal music. Give us time before kick off to get going. Let us applaud the team off without dogshit music. I also agree about the tempo.

With the lack of people who cannot attend games through one reason or another these days do you think we would be able to sell out a play off semi? And would the lack of fans damage our chances?

Better atmosphere yesterday. Once again **** music at the end ruined an opportunity to show appreciation. I think in many ways our best performance at home under Parker alongside an absolute shite referee and they were always going to be properly supported. They deserved proper acknowledgement yesterday.

The atmosphere in the second half was lifted by the fact that Swansea had equalised at Leeds.

Personally I feel that the reason people are critical of the atmosphere is simply because of the long gaps of silence between songs/chants at times.

People who defend this, often state that the chanting is spontaneous, so needs excitement on the pitch to fire up the fans..

Critics think that the noise perhaps needs a level of organising, to keep a steady level of noise, despite what might or might not be happening on the pitch.

Thought the atmosphere was good yesterday. Also thought that as a team, it was the best we had played in terms of hunting in packs and regaining possession, and also playing on the front foot.

Maybe the two are linked somehow?

Playing music the literal 30 secs/ minute before K.O is utterly ludicrous as it drowns out the pre match chanting and “anticipation lift” you get just before k.o. Almost bizzare thinking . It’s annoying post match too as truly ruins (and drowns out) clapping the team off . Nowt wrong with having pre match music/walk out music etc , but it all feels very much “ square pegs in round holes”

I noticed when watching the Sheff Utd v Coventry game, just as the second half started, the Sheffield fans all started signing what seemed like an anthem. It sounded great and your point about some level of organisation being needed reminded me of this attempt by their fans to get the atmosphere going.

It worked and it could for us. Maybe any prominent members of the CFS who post on here can say whether this happens on the Turf because it's not obvious that it does

Big difference was the noise as the players left the warm up pre match. Ground was about 15% full but it was clear the fans were ready.

There's a growing relationship with Anthony/Pires and the Longside. Hannibal was standing applause from pretty much all my half of the Longside. The last 15 we were probably as loud as anything in the first half.

It is another issue for the owners to clock, it takes times for fans and players to bond. You can't **** half a squad off and replace them and expect it to be supportive. We don't have a draft mentality. There is credit and appreciation from the fans to the players ie Steve, Barnes.

Excellent tonight, supporters supporting by vocal encouragement, singing, chanting, but the biggest plus was no long periods of silence.
I'm sure it contributed to the players passing quicker than recently, moving better off the ball and then it all became chicken and egg.

The other big plus was it felt to me that there was less moaning and groaning when mistakes were made. The players responded positively by continuing to play positively.

Good performances all round. Players and fans as one.

The issue we have is that we have the atmosphere like that, but still “Mr Shouty” wanting us to MAKE SOME NOISE and to HEAR IT FOR BURNLEY so the club will think it’s correlated.

It’s like when the club said we like and wanted goal music because we are “dancing along to it when played” completely missing the fact that we would be jumping around celebrating a goal being scored.

Sheffield United game would be the opportunity for them to cut the mic work from Mr Shouty, goal music and let the fans do it themselves.

Excellence atmosphere tonight. Best of the season by some distance. Only lacking a goal in the second half to whip things up again.
I think the Burnley players are realising that they can also whip up the crowd. And will get a response. Brownhill did it to great effect to the longside lower late second half.
Hope everyone will be bringing their loudest voices for the 4 games of the season. It must be a huge boost for the players.

I think the mic work and the music adds to the feeling. Can tell not everyone agrees, but when he shouts "let's hear it for Burnley" 99% of the crowd roar. I presume the ones who don't shout are sulking into their Bovril and their haffners pie they warmed up at home on the radiator

Give over. He gets a lukewarm response at best, presumably out of pity for the bloke.

I thought it was very good last night and certainly the best it has been for a while. Even looked like all 4 stands joining in.

You could tell it was lifting the players and we need to replicate that against Sheff Utd.

Thought the support was great last night particularly in the second half when we needed it.

Best atmosphere of the season and as Parker highlighted, not only was it loud, it was positive. That does make a difference at this stage of proceedings.

And its just yet another song ripped off from another club. For the Sheff U game i'd just like to see them do away with all the gimmicky crap, and just let the fans build an atmosphere the old fashioned way.
