This City is ours BBC

Post by Jel » Wed Mar 26, 2025 8:29 pm

I've tried a search of this and I'm surprised that there's no results.
It's a quite brilliant series about a drugs cartel in Liverpool. I strongly recommend it.
Anyone else watching?

Sean Bean sold it for me. Watched one episode so far and enjoyed.

I watched the first one on Sunday and thought it was excellent.
I know I can binge it on I-Player, but I think I’ll watch it week by week to give me something to look forward to on a Sunday evening.
It’s like a Scouse version of “Kin”.

I'm really enjoying it myself, but strangely the TV critics don't seem to share that view and have criticised it for being too cliched and for poor acting. I don't think that's the case at all, on either front.

Great watch so far. The lad playing Michael is such a good actor. Very believable high end drug dealer for once. Great use of Scouse colloquialisms too

Just watched the first episode tonight. Nothing against Sean Bean but felt like it would be better a Scouser playing that role.

Yeah it's mad having a full on scouse family and Mr Yorkshire Tea being the head of the fam
Great twists though, and sooner than you think - very good watch

Only an hour and half away if that to Sheffield. Be loads of Yorkshire folk living in Liverpool and vice versa

He is a very good actor but he's definitely not one for deviating from his South Yorkshire accent in his roles!

He is very good. Remember him playing a violent inmate in Jimmy McGovern's Time where he bullies Sean Bean's character. Good that he's got a more nuanced role in this.

It’s enjoyable and well acted , yes it’s a bit generic and the Scouse accents a bit “ over scoused” and wonky in a couple of the women , but it’s got some nice twists and quite a realistic feel . Pity Bean wasn’t in it longer but still. Though I did chortle at hiring an electric van from Marbella to Liverpool

Always been cast in this type of role, he was one of the scumbags in the drama Little Boy Blue. In real life he says it couldn't be further from the truth and he's a big softy taking his Nephews to the park for instance.

Good actor.

That drama (I've forgotten the title already) the other week with Scouser Stephen Graham was set in Doncaster I think.

Finished it last night. Though it was was very generic and cliched to begin with but it developed into a really gripping, tense drama. Really enjoyed and looking forward to series 2.

Just finished watching this, and I have to say, it’s the best series I’ve seen in a long time. Brilliant acting, sharp writing, and a story that kept me hooked right through to the end.

Unlike so many shows that lose their way or get a bit cliché as they go on, this one stayed strong and actually got better. I won’t give away any spoilers for those still watching or planning to start, but I will say this: it’s absolutely worth the 8-hour investment – you won’t be disappointed.

We got hooked - if you'll excuse the pun - early doors, and binge watched it over 2 nights.

Brilliant - tense, twists, great cast and plot. Well recommended.

Cliched, as in cliched characters, is one of the more stupid comments anyone can make about a film or book. What were the TV critics expecting, choir boys?

Excellent series, with a great cast. Could see the actor who plays the lead character Michael as the potential new James Bond.
