My Fabulous Day

Post by HurstGrangeClaret » Sun Apr 06, 2025 9:00 pm

Just thought I’d share with you the fabulous day I had yesterday.
On Friday, I traveled down to London to stay the weekend for my daughter’s wedding. We caught the train from Preston and were settled in our hotel in Greenwich before tea time.
That evening, we had booked a meal at the Cutty Sark pub in Greenwich and our upstairs room gave us fabulous views up and down the Thames. It was a lovely evening spent with family and friends, made even better with news from Deadwood.
The following morning, I was ready in plenty of time whilst my wife, daughter and bridesmaids were getting ready in another room. Shortly after 12.30, I checked my phone and saw the surprising news we were one down. From then on, frequent checks revealed our equaliser and then Luton going one up against DL.
Then time to get a white London cab to the venue, the Tudor Barn at Eltham. I kept sneaking looks at my phone, much to my wife and daughter’s disappointment, and saw we’d taken the lead. From then on upto the start of the ceremony,as frequent checks on my phone as possible, including just before walking my daughter down the aisle.
The ceremony was lovely, my wife continued to bend my ear, DL equalised and full time came with us in pole position in the league. My son, another keen Claret, managed to get the full time results to me.
The celebrations began and what had been a fabulous day actually got better with the news that Sheff Utd had been beaten and we were in top spot.
The rest of the day was amazing, my daughter was radiant and happy, and I think I just about got away with it with my wife.
Family is the most important thing in life, but being a Claret is definitely up there.

Forgot to add, to make the day even better, my niece at the wedding backed the Grand National winner and made a nice 80 quid profit.

Nice story.
How fun would it be, if this was now a constant thread where people share stories of A Fabulous Day they had.

Glad you had a wonderful day all round with your Daughters wedding and Clarets result. Been down that neck of the woods many times when i lived in the UK as my Sister lives in Eltham.

Obviously a real fan, y'know one who was at the Colchester game, would have told their daughter to stuff their wedding and walked to Coventry.

Thanks Clive, it really was a brilliant day.
Even though my daughter lives in nearby Greenwich, it was my first visit to Eltham and the Tudor Barn is a great location. We were also lucky with the warm sunny weather.
On top of that, a Clarets win to put us top- days don’t get better than Saturday.
