I have a ticket for tonight-I will have been three times during this dreadful home run and sadly its a reminder of how dark days can now been in the PL. I have to say Leicester are playing even worse than we did at this stage of the season last year, and doubt they will get close to our 24 points season end

I agree with your sentiment but I have no sympathy whatsoever for Leicester City.

I know fans will say how poor we were last season and wanted Kompany sacked but I think this season highlights just how difficult it is these days. Ipswich spent more than we did and have looked worse.

I actually think upon reflection we did quite well, no doubt our horrific start gave us a mountain to climb and I think we had far too many red cards overall.

Some fans will make out like the players lacked spirit and didn’t care, but you don't go and do what we did at Old Trafford, Anfield, The Emirates, Brighton ground, Villa park, Stamford Bridge and Spurs’ ground without some kind of collective spirit and desire.

Fine margins in the end, threw away so many points conceding late goals and not treated well by the officials.

I certainly get your perspective but so, so much has gone wrong at Southampton and Leicester. Like it did for us the season before. You simply can’t afford to make such big mistakes. Leicester’s back 5 here is simply nowhere near PL level. In fact their 11 is weaker than what Maresca had in the Champ. That’s before mentioning the woeful mid season appointments they both made.

I think our summer strategy will be considerably different this summer.

I suspect we will sign only 4-5 but maybe spend a bit more on wages and fee.

I agree on the type of player. I suspect we will go after big athletic players and sprinkle in a level above our usual standard technically wise.

Edwards and Another (I personally think Tresor might even make a comeback). Then go for some real athletic power houses in midfield to compliment Cullen.

Kompany was out of his depth in the premiership. RVN could be a top Manager in the Championship for all we know. He’s received some very unfair criticism at times. “We dodged a bullet” that’s been mentioned on other threads is another comment with no foundation.

I'd definitely trust Scott Parker far more than the last manager to put ego to one side and use a pragmatic system, and also to fully appreciate the value of team spirit and good characters who want to graft for each other. Hopefully we wouldn't be quite so bad if we did win promotion again.

Well I wouldn't worry about players being the full package. Burnley are always going to have to compromise between players with physicality and technical ability. Players with both have always been out of reach.

Last time we prioritised fancy little technical players (despite the manager assuring us all summer he knew how physical the league was). If we get the opportunity again, it has to be the opposite.

Just back-I saw a night a team that was resigned to relegation. Everyone seemed to have downed tools from kick-off. A stroll for Newcastle.THey have a manager who is starting each game with the same team, when they have not scored for 12 hours. Many callers on local radio want him and Rudkin (director of football) out, and the chairman to sell the club as his heart is not in it. The club is crying out for someone like Dyche to rebuild the team, bring in some experienced pros, and get rid of some of the old guard drawing high wages from the club.

Saying he has the physical attributes and not 100% certain on his technical ability is a big compliment. If he had both he would playing for city.

However, you don’t want to end up with a more expensive Josh Laurent - a big uplift in footballing ability would also be required.

If we do go up, a player worth a punt, assuming his demands are not too great is Caluum Wilson, who I believe becomes a free agent, and no longer a regular at Newcastle. He was a sub last night but still a threat when he came on

Southampton have been crap but at least their fans have seen their team score goals (they've also seen them conceded shedloads but you can't have everything).

Even Derby did better in their legendary 2007/8 season.

Chris Wood has scored 18 goals this season. Mc Neil and Tarkowski are important players for Everton and Ben Mee won a Brentford fans award at the age of 33/34 only a season or so ago.

The team that got us into Europe would still challenge for a top 10 place. We have the nucleus of a good PL side as long as we are hard to beat and do the hard yards. Problem is we will likely lose good players.

I think the problem for promoted teams is a fashion for trying to out football better players and the fact that managers like Dyche, Allardyce and Moyes etc. are even more unfashionable than ever before - not forgetting it was less than a season ago Moyes was hounded out of West Ham.

The only way to succeed in the PL is to follow the Dyche model specialise in a style of football and do it better than other teams by working harder and getting in players who might not be great all round footballers but are very good at what they do like Wood, Tarkowski, Westwood and Cork etc.

SP can develop this team over the next couple of seasons; I'm just not sure he can do so within the model ALK want to operate.

Josh Laurent is a case in point he works very hard and is a specialist at what he does. No doubt Hannibal is a better footballer by far but Laurent is disciplined and works very hard off the ball. He does at times look clumsy and lacks technical quality but he makes Cullen's life easier and allows players like Brownhill to operate in between the lines.

Now they've landed back on earth with a massive bang, they're realising what a mess they truly are
They've had players forcing managerial changes, and also a number of players are clearly just going through the motions now

RVN wasn't the right choice, he's never had to drag a club back up from a downwards spiral

Dyche would certainly sort them out, but the fans probably don't have the patience as they'll want pretty and ineffective football
