Winger options

Post by bumba » Wed Apr 09, 2025 8:43 am

With three big games in a week two away from home so travelling as well how come we persisted with Edwards and Anthony for so long yesterday when Edwards especially wasn't completely out of the game?
With the options on the bench why didn't we rotate or use our subs earlier/better?

Qe saw the plan when Foster came on. The unfortunate injury cocked it up.

He probably regrets using Edwards as long as he did. It wasn't his type of game and that became more clear as it went on. I'd have moved Anthony to the right and brought Foster on the left rather than the bizarre role he was given.

Unfortunately Foster wasn't on long enough to understand the role he was given but looked like he dropped in to the 10 with Flemming staying up top which is baffling.
Not sure why we didn't use Redmond, when Foster went off for Hannibal that was Parker declaring is happiness at a draw, I'd have stuck another attacking option on and had a go at them.

Hannibal is a good player who at least was able to control the ball on that pitch and showed a few nice bits of play. Nothing wrong with that sub, for me.

It seemed to be sort of Inbetween a box to box number 8 and and a number 10 but as you say we didn't really it for long enough to really understand what role he was supposed to be playing

I'd have brought Hannibal on for Laurent to be honest in a central area where he's at his best getting on the ball, then brought an attacking option on out wide to create something

They are our best and most reliable. Edwards had a poor night but Forsyth is a good LB.
The problem I see with Edwards is he has fast feet but not fast legs. He beats his man easily but can't run away from them so then he has to check back and start again. Once he gets a body length he’s fine as he shields it very well. Just wish we’d get men in the box for early crosses.

The 11 should have been refreshed with a 3 game week, we saw how refreshed Flemming looked.

I agree, but fully understand it was a very difficult decision against the side second in the form table behind us.

They are a better side than the table or opposition fans give them credit for and we all know about Eustace.

I'm sure he considered switching out Laurent but we needed his physicality yesterday.

He could have also started Foster but again he probably thought Flemming's physical presence was needed.

The rest are pretty much undroppable IMO and player fatigue is something all 3 teams are struggling with because you need your best players playing in the run in.

He should use the bench more and earlier.

That's a fair point and a different discussion.
