Lancs v Leicestershire ...
The Hotel, Event and property development Company based at Old Trafford, apparently run a Cricket Club as a " side venture ", and they are 61-3 at lunch against mighty Leicestershire ...

Just noticed former Ribb league pro Naeem Ashraf is umpiring there.
He used to umpire local leagues with his wife.
Was a fabulous cricketer.

I once no balled him 4 times in an over - he wasn't happy lol. Good umpire, but the less said about his missus the better.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Apr 19, 2025 5:54 pmJust noticed former Ribb league pro Naeem Ashraf is umpiring there.

If it wasn't for 2 hotels coffee franchise, 1200 seater conference facility and car parking for Man United games there would be no international cricket and Lancs would play their games at a 3,000 seater out of town facility in Wigan which was the option before the 2011 redevelopment.Clarets4me wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 1:09 pmThe Hotel, Event and property development Company based at Old Trafford, apparently run a Cricket Club as a " side venture ", and they are 61-3 at lunch against mighty Leicestershire ...

Did they think it would rain less in Wigan?Flixtonclaret1 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 19, 2025 6:15 pmIf it wasn't for 2 hotels coffee franchise, 1200 seater conference facility and car parking for Man United games there would be no international cricket and Lancs would play their games at a 3,000 seater out of town facility in Wigan which was the option before the 2011 redevelopment.

How do all the other county cricket sides without that facility survive then, and mostly do better than Lancashire?Flixtonclaret1 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 19, 2025 6:15 pmIf it wasn't for 2 hotels coffee franchise, 1200 seater conference facility and car parking for Man United games there would be no international cricket and Lancs would play their games at a 3,000 seater out of town facility in Wigan which was the option before the 2011 redevelopment.
Do the good people of Durham and Hampshire pile out to their grounds more than the good folk of Lancashire? Same for the bad folk of Yorkshire?
I’m afraid the commercial aspects of the club along with the franchise shite now rule the roost at Lancashire, and the county sides don’t matter one iota.
This season, in Division 2, Lancashire have been behind for most of the match vs Northants, Scrambked to save a draw against the mighty Middlesex and now find themselves in an awkward (at best) position vs Leicestershire. Shambles.

Re: Lancs v Leicestershire ...
Durham hosts international cricket (as does Lancashire) which is where over half their income comes from. Without international cricket, which accounted for 4 million income on the last set of accounts, Durham would have filed a loss of about 3.7 million.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 20, 2025 9:43 amHow do all the other county cricket sides without that facility survive then, and mostly do better than Lancashire?

Hampshire were insolvent before indian company GMR put 120 million in.
Yorkshire filed a loss of 7 million on the last set of accounts.

But none are playing in a 3,000 seater stadium in Wigan.

If Lancs did a season of outgrounds they would increase numbers no end.
Proper cricket grounds. I hate Old Trafford.

Must admit i always thought it can't be very enjoyable playing county games in the big Test match grounds that are empty.
Would rather play and watch at one of the outgrounds in front of a decent crowd.

Miles behind the game again, zero chance of winning, likely having to bat for a day and a session to salvage a draw, for the 3rd game running this season, and about 9 or 10 in a row if you add in last season. Like the club the other side of the road, looks a pretty toxic environment where good players regress under weak and confusing leadership.

Leicestershire declare on 491/8, a lead of 228, with Lancashire facing a tricky 8 overs this evening ....

Re: Lancs v Leicestershire ...
Of all the things to poke fault at the club for, I don't think the ground is one of them. It's a world class venue. The pavilion bar is great to watch the game from behind the bowler's arm.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Apr 20, 2025 10:41 amIf Lancs did a season of outgrounds they would increase numbers no end.

I just don't like it at all. Just doesn't feel like a cricket ground to me.

I don’t like it - used to love it with the old traditional pavilion before they turned it into an eyesore stuck between the point and the hotels.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Apr 20, 2025 7:47 pmI just don't like it at all. Just doesn't feel like a cricket ground to me.

Re: Lancs v Leicestershire ...
Having just returned home from todays play I agree Chris that the ground and the team are 2 separate issues.
Not sure many Spurs fans are blaming their ground for a 16th place in the Premier League.
Hey … the players are not cutting the mustard currently and as a lifetime member of Lancashire Cricket I agree but please don’t blame our poor performance on the ground.
Onwards ….tomorrow is all about football not cricket.

I'm not blaming the ground for the poor performance, just think there's a better vibe around the club when playing at an outground. The rush for tickets, people seem excited to go and watch.Flixtonclaret1 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 20, 2025 7:56 pmHaving just returned home from todays play I agree Chris that the ground and the team are 2 separate issues.
