Parkers Contract
Lots of threads and posts in the last 48 hours about players we retain, players we want to extend their contracts, and players we should sign. Surely first step is to get Parker himself on a new contract (I believe he was only on a two year contract when he signed in the Summer).
There will be a number of clubs looking for a new manager including several in the PL, the Scottish PL and even Europe. This club now should be seeking stability after the last 3 roller coaster seasons. It needs to be sitting down with Parker to formulate a staff personnel plan identifying targets and departures, bearing in mind we have several on loan who are clearly not good enough for the Championship let alone the PL. That stability is ensured by extending Parker's contract in recognition of his incredible season, and building in a significant release fee should a PL club come after him within a few weeks of the season starting-leaving us again in yet another mess.
For some it will be inconceivable that any PL club would be eying up Parker, but he is well connected at Chelsea, West Ham, Spurs, Fulham-all several hundred miles closer to his family. Lets not forget we know Spurs were looking at Kompany, and Chelsea went for a Championship manager in Maresca. It would be the best possible news for me and I suspect many fans, then we can start building for the PL

We'll want him out by November, let's be real.

Re: Parkers Contract
A London boy at heart so probably won’t see us as a long term project. Done a wonderful job but not sure we would be able to persuade him to sign an extended contract. More likely to commit to a southern or London based team

Re: Parkers Contract
He needs to rebuild his career and prove he can do something at Premier League level. He’s started the rebuild but I think he’ll want to be here to try and prove himself. Let’s face it, he’s still not really a ‘saleable’ asset at Premier League level, although I’ve no doubt London will come calling if/when he is.

Re: Parkers Contract
I don’t know. I’m sure I read somewhere that he enjoyed his time at Newcastle. I get the impression he was a bit battered and bruised after his time at Bruges and has spoken a couple of times about how he values working with good people.
Short of a Spurs job offer I highly doubt he’ll be going anywhere. In fact I think the power (if that’s the right word) is in our hands with this one.

Re: Parkers Contract
Or have to payout.
It seemed to work best when Dyche was on a 12 month rolling contract. When he was given a 4yr contract by the new owners it was very costly.

Re: Parkers Contract
If he's spent 400 million and we are crap then fair enough, if we've spent 100 then he doesn't stand too much of a chance. If we are going to drop then why would we sack someone who has 100% record in the Championship ?

Hi C&J
They are useful if he goes.
His contract runs to 2027 so if he goes we should get two years of his salary guessed at around £45k a weeks at least.
If he gets a new PL deal for more money and or years we’ll get more.

Re: Parkers Contract
If his contract ends June 27, I am more relaxed-I thought in the OP he only had 12 months to run, which is why I was concerned

Re: Parkers Contract
He signed a four year contract in January 2018 and then the new owners gave him another four year deal in September 2021 then sacked him just over six months later.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 4:01 pmOr have to payout.

Re: Parkers Contract
I don't think the club gave out any info on length of contract at the time, but I'm sure it was longer than two years. I think it was three.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 3:19 pmSurely first step is to get Parker himself on a new contract (I believe he was only on a two year contract when he signed in the Summer).
Re: Parkers Contract
Signed on a 3 year deal in July 2024 but you are right to be concerned. We don’t want another summer where it takes two months for players bought and new manager to gel with established ones. Brownlee recently commented how disruptive that was and how it cost us at Sunderland.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 4:27 pmIf his contract ends June 27, I am more relaxed-I thought in the OP he only had 12 months to run, which is why I was concerned
Last time we hoped Kompany would benefit but his insistence on tactics unsuited to most players and making the same wrong decisions hoping for a different outcome killed us. Hope Scott can keep the nucleus of the bonded brotherhood and be able to get the players he wants.

Re: Parkers Contract
Totally agree-the Sunderland defeat was so poor, and against Wolves we looked threadbare. It was an achievement not losing v RoversCorway wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 4:50 pmSigned on a 3 year deal in July 2024 but you are right to be concerned.
