So Burnley on average win 50% of there games.
Sheffield on average win 66% of there games.
Sheffield will end up 96 points plus.
Burnley won’t. Simple really

Re: congrats leeds and sheff u
There was a small section of us that believed we were on track for 90plus points as we were averaging 2 points a game. We also noticed that instead of losing games, we were drawing them instead. That was realistic.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 8:54 amIf we are being realistic most of us thought that the 13 goalless draws would cost us top two.
The rest were just crying over nothing. As this thread now shows.

Wow, interesting table. Sheffield U only half way up and Luton, Derby and Plymouth doing very nicely thank you, which is making it all very interesting down the bottom.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 10:31 amI'd not seen this thread at all until I was alerted to it yesterday and it does make interesting reading.
I thought I'd just take a look at the league table from games played on 17th Feb (the date when the thread started) to current. We ain't done so bad really.
Table since 17-2.jpg
Re: congrats leeds and sheff u
I've done the same and I commented on 18th Feb. Thankfully my comment was reasoned. I actually wrote that we'd need to win 10 of our last 13 to stand a chance of automatic. Not far off with that prediction, we've won 9 of the 11 since! It's been a remarkable run of form, it really has. Hats off to the lads on the pitch, they turned into "mentality monsters" over the last couple of months and really cranked up the pressure on Leeds and Sheff U.

A bit O/T but Preston's drop off has really gone under the radar. They now sit only 3 points above the drop zone, albeit with a favourable goal difference compared to others.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 10:31 amI'd not seen this thread at all until I was alerted to it yesterday and it does make interesting reading.

I always thought that 92 was both the target and that it would be achieved (I tipped us for Champions on the prediction league). I think at times Parker was happy with a draw because he had that 2 pts per game in mind. I was concerned it was an error because the parachute payments have totally distorted what a normal top two points tally means. Luckily Sheff Utd have imploded after Souttar got injured.
Crazily, if we had “gone for it” n that pre-Feb period we may have had a ridiculous points tally of 110+.
Those concerns though about what it takes to win this league nowadays are no excuse from the relentless negativity shown by a big minority on here (albeit I block most of them).

With Hull having to play Derby and Preston's better goal difference maybe 2 or 3%

PNE are far from save. Plymouth at home Saturday and Bristol City away in last game. On a terrible run.
Re: congrats leeds and sheff u
That never tends to work over the course of a season. You're likely to go through a spell where you will hit a bad run, as Leeds did.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 1:47 pm

People with a lot more understanding and knowledge of the game than I have kept saying we would improve as the season went on.
That looks very much to have been the case.
What I do know is that you don’t lose two out of 44 unless you are a bloody good side.

It was pretty mind numbing for a spell, it's not disrespectful to say that. It's just getting used to it I suppose. I actually enjoyed Dyche's direct football. Obviously Kompany in the Championship was amazing. With Parker, by the end, I did get round to appreciating how he manages to almost suck the danger out of any game.
That 2nd half v Sheff Utd was a bit of a masterclass in how to do it, and probably a more transferable skill for the Prem.

I’d settle for them just shutting the f**k up and not spouting their ill-informed opinion with complete certainty on every single subject like they are experts, despite them consistently and loudly getting things wrong all the time.

joint 2nd highest away goals (with LUFC)
2nd highest total goals (behind LUFC from 1 match less)

Re: congrats leeds and sheff u
It’s not going to be exhilarating football all the time when we were struggling with our strikers for pretty much all of the season. I would not blame SP for this and he never complained about it either. He just worked very hard to find a way to improve the situation as the season went on and to try and keep us in games when we were struggling. We have been in with a chance of getting a least a draw on every game this season because we have never been more than one behind. And we have also seen a very clear improvement in our style and attacking prowess in the last few months which is not luck but the product of all of SP and the players hard work.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 3:19 pmIt was pretty mind numbing for a spell, it's not disrespectful to say that. We all know how brilliant our defence has been but our attack is not as bad as some people think. We are now in the top 6 scorers in the league and it’s only Leeds who are miles ahead of us.
Of course nil nils can be difficult to watch as supporters but we have had tough times under every manager. Thank our lucky stars that we are not Preston fans. They have had loads of nil nils too this season but unlike Burnley they have not been promoted automatically to the EPL 4 times in the last decade…..in fact as we know they have never been promoted to the EPL !!

Re: congrats leeds and sheff u
They’ve had the most number of draws in the division so we aren’t the only team who have struggled against them.
They caught us at the right time in October and were unlucky not to beat us.
At their place the pitch was awful and the referee was even worse. They kicked lumps out of us that day and were allowed to by the ref. We were the better team but didn’t play great and the game petered out after the Hannibal incident.
In the cup is the worst we have played by a mile this season and we rested a few players too.
Preston are dog sh-ite but every dog as it’s day !!

Think it was just a timing thing. PNE fans said they only really seemed to turn up in those games. Home game we were still relatively early days as a unit, away game we were better and were on a bog of a pitch, cup game we made too many changes and had some pretty useless performances, not least Shelvey, again on a shocker of a pitch.
