Not too despondent.

Re: Not too despondent.
Takes the edge off it, but obviously the main
thing was getting promotion, we were so near though.
Cheered myself up by having a butcher's at the Championship table which shows Rovers missing out
on the playoffs, like you say.

I know this will upset a few but I'm more gutted for the lads that so many people left early.

Not sure if you noticed or not but DL scored in the 91st minute meaning we did not win the league, all goal count but I thought we had done it.
Never mind though as I've said that lot came 7th also just missing out!

I can only say that in the CFS no one had a clue what was going on. Can’t hear any announcements in there. Millwall fans still hanging around in the stand, plus we’d done a lot of celebrations 2 weeks ago.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 3:12 pmI know this will upset a few but I'm more gutted for the lads that so many people left early.
Totally nothing to be despondent about though!

Re: Not too despondent.
Don't feel at all despondent. Going into the last game before the March international break well behind Leeds and Sheff U I think any Claret would have taken today's final league table. Tremendous sequence of results and proud of the records set - incredible to be the best goals conceded per game ratio in Football League history eclipsing the Liverpool record from 78-79. - And we are third highest scorers too....

Despondent? Have a word with yourself. Disappointing in the manner the title slipped away but bloody hell - 100 points, 33 games defeated & a football league record set regarding goals conceded? And the Bastards missing out? If that's despondency give me more of it.

More upset for Trafford not getting the clean sheet record. Our defence have been slow out of the blocks recently and it cost him.

It was the cherry on top.
For this season, this Burnley team will be remembered far beyond the title win.
33, unbeaten at home, never conceding more than 1 ect… ect..

Re: Not too despondent.
Not wishing to sound too despondent as today and the season have been magnificent. Some lessons there today though-we will be exposed in the PL down the flanks unless we strengthen at full back. Millwall scored one today and missed a sitter by attacking down the flanks. Its where we have looked vulnerable on a number of times this season. THe second lesson is taking our chances-how easy were the ones that Anthony and Edwards missed and we will I anticipate get the minimum of chances in games next season. But enough of that now-its time to celebrate and chill out, but I am certain SP is already planning our squad for next season. At least he will enjoy a pre season with the hopeful confidence of not experiencing a mini exodus on his return from that training camp

Re: Not too despondent.
It's only a couple of weeks since we were worried that we might have to go into the play-offs. Certainly not despondent after the clubs players release fiasco shortly after the season started. It's absolutely bloody brilliant.

Look Leeds are going to live off this Championship for years to come. We’ve won it twice in the last 10 years, let them have their moment!
Re: Not too despondent.
Same, Terrier. Not despondent. Nobody in the wider world gives a toss about the Championship title, to be honest. Winning promotion is what matters at the end of the day. 100 points and missing out on goal difference is some effort.
Imagine how the Sheffield public is feeling tonight. They have been robbed of seeing two big sporting moments in the space of two days. First, it was Ronnie O'Sullivan being knocked out at the Crucible. Then, Rovers go and blow it at Bramall Lane today.
No 8th World title for Ronnie. No blockbuster showing from Blackburn Rovers, on their way to a Premier League reunion. I'd say they have more reasons to be despondent than any of us tonight.

Re: Not too despondent.
After Sunderland away I couldn't be any less disappointed with what these boys have achieved..absolutely remarkable. We've got the same points as a team who've been together 18 months longer than us, not conceded a goal against them and it's taken a 91st minute goal for them to win the league...I'd take that!!

100 points and the best defence since Dinosaurs roamed the Earth - if some other team scored some more goals then so what - who is going to care next year - or in a hundred years when our record will still stand.

Unbelievable day and season - just sad we’re not in the championship for at least another year. Best league in the world and the most entertaining (partly because we never lose)

These Championship seasons wouldn’t be as enjoyable without the biannual foray in the Premier League.Flying Without Ings wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 11:05 pmUnbelievable day and season - just sad we’re not in the championship for at least another year. Re: Not too despondent.
Yeah, I wasn’t meaning it as a dig, just that it’s vital we do bounce straight back from the Championship when relegated, regardless of how enjoyable it can be, because promotion becomes a tougher ask every season we don’t. And there are plenty of ex-PL teams that I’m sure don’t enjoy slogging it out at the bottom of the Championship.
Re: Not too despondent.
West Brom. Exactly what?
Re: Not too despondent.
I was pretty crushed yesterday, not going to lie. I've never seen us win a title at Turf Moor, all the ones in my lifetime have been at away grounds. I feel like if Leeds had ended 1-1 and then Brownhill had scored that goal in injury time, it would have been the perfect ending. However it felt like it was only a matter of time that Leeds would score, and inevitable that it was injury time. They've done it to us before remember.
On the flip side, I'm massively encouraged for next season now, mainly with the marked improvement of our team over the course of the season. Remember some of those home games where it was 0-0 and we could hardly create a chance? I didn't really want us to go up at that stage, as we weren't ready.
This team is a different animal now.
