Training Grounds
Training Grounds
How many have you been to and how do you feel Gawthorpe stands up against it's peers?

Re: Training Grounds
It’s the only one I’ve ever been inside so can’t do any comparisons but so many people remark on how good it is.
Re: Training Grounds
I've been to:
Wolves
Aston Villa
Man United
Leeds
Leicester
Middlesbrough
Burnley
Blackburn
Preston
Nottingham
From a purely aesthetic point of view Leicesters is superb with Leeds being ugly.

Re: Training Grounds
I've heard quite a few say Leicester have the best training facilities in the country. They should try using them

Re: Training Grounds
I was at Huddersfield’s last week. Looked good for what is now a League One club, a good legacy of their brief Premier League time. Close to town centre too, which feels unusual.
Re: Training Grounds
I now have a vision of Leicester players that I can't shift, and ruining the grass.

Re: Training Grounds
Only ever been to Gawthorpe. It’s a great setting and good facilities but don’t think it compares to the big Premier League clubs and Leicester.
I’d definitely be very happy to see continued investment in the training ground to keep it a leading facility.

Re: Training Grounds
So how does Burnley compare? You've asked a question that it appears you are best qualified to answer. Or is "number of training grounds" some new willy-waving contest?

I pass behind Huddersfield's quite regularly, on the Broad Canal.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Sun May 04, 2025 5:46 pmI was at Huddersfield’s last week. Looked good for what is now a League One club, a good legacy of their brief Premier League time. Close to town centre too, which feels unusual.
Re: Training Grounds
Facilties at Gawthorpe are hugely impressive now , Top pitch , Outdoor Astro , 1st team and all the Academy pitches , medical facilities , rehab , weight room , players canteen, meeting rooms , offices are all top notch and a universe away from how they were 10/15 years ago the place in unrecognisable now even the Security and free brew machine adds to it all.
When the Annual international Tournament is on at Gawthorpe all the Academy teams taking part , AC Milan , Juventus , Chelsea, Arsenal , Wolves , Glasgow Rangers ect are all very impressed with the setup.
The only negative I can point to, is the indoor pitch would be a lot bigger ideally.

Re: Training Grounds
It's hardly something to brag about but I can get your point, as that's really why I asked the question because in my opinion (biased) Gawthorpe LOOKS to be right up there, beautiful setting, Leeds is across the road from a prison.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sun May 04, 2025 6:00 pmSo how does Burnley compare? Re: Training Grounds
It certainly holds its own , ok the big boys like city Utd have more actual Astro pitches , but there’s a certain level which once attained is hardly relevant to performance .

Re: Training Grounds
I agree with this, although I think a lot at this level is vanity over football facilities. How do you give the first team players the very very best because that’s where they spend most of their time.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Sun May 04, 2025 6:40 pmIt certainly holds its own , ok the big boys like city Utd have more actual Astro pitches , but there’s a certain level which once attained is hardly relevant to performance .

Middling to lower end of the facilities in the Premier League.
Just take a look at Bournemouth's new setup

Re: Training Grounds
Chelsea will need a massive training ground for all those players they hoard. I remember a few seasons ago, when they were going mad signing players, someone said they were having to sit on the floor at meetings due to the number of players.

Re: Training Grounds
Spent a lot of time at Carrington, littleton Rd, Cliff in 2002-2007 when my best mate was at united and it was state of the art, Ive been told theyve barely invested since.
Been most training grounds in the north, thorpe arch, etc amd Burnley is very good but your likes of city, brighton, chelsea are another world

Re: Training Grounds
This is about Brighton’s training ground. It’s about the women’s team but shows the size and scale of the facilities.

Interesting because the recent Keeping the Faith episode shows how the women’s team now share the facilities (very good) but this shows modern scale of shared facilities.
