The first manager to end two successive seasons in charge since 2011 when Malky Mackay was manager.

What a joke club.

The guys in charge from owners to Sporting Director are complete clowns. Fans were fully behind Cleverley and had built a connection to him, this feels like it could turn toxic quite quickly.

I'm not shocked. Cos its Watford
But I should be

I was under the impression that the fans were very happy with him. And thought another transfer window and pre-season would help them seriously push for the playoffs or more

Ridiculous owners

He was interviewed on BBC 3 Counties Radio on Saturday and said that the owners were behind him and he was already planning signings etc for next season!

I was going to say I'm surprised by the news but nothing that happens at Watford FC surprises anyone these days.

Cleverley strikes me as someone, a bit like Rosenior, who having been surprisingly sacked at a poorly run club will go on to do very well in his next appointment. A terrible decision.

Well on course with my prediction that by 2030 everyone in the UK will have either been Watford manager or a Sugababe.

Agree 100% with this. I thought they were very good against us at Vicarage Road, and probably gave us the toughest 45 minutes of the season. Trafford kept the score even with a couple of outstanding saves. They lost their heads in the second half, but they were certainly one I had an eye on for next season as Cleverley seemed to be finding his feet. Very odd!

If it was any other club I'd say it was a strange decision. They fell apart a bit against us, but I thought they had several very promising young players. Definitely something to build on. I wasn't keen on Cleverley the player but I thought he came across quite well as a manager too. Wouldn't be suprised to see him get work quite quickly

But that ginger prick on the Second Tier Podcast said he would have been more suitable to win manager of the year than Scott Parker......

and now he's been sacked.

Can't believe that lad is wrong yet again... he's been wrong more times this week, than Watford have had managers since 2012.

That guy and their podcast in general do not like to give Burnley any credit and even less so say anything positive about Scott Parker. An awful clickbait podcast.

Club statement

𝗢𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: 𝗚𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗣𝗼𝘇𝘇𝗼

It is 13 years since we first invested in Watford and, in that time, this magnificent football club has changed enormously.

Vicarage Road is a home that every single one of us can be proud of and a fitting stadium for fans who deserve the best.

We have had some wonderful highs – seasons in the Premier League and several visits to Wembley – but of course, some inevitable disappointments, which are part of football.

But this is not meant as a history lesson. This is about the present and the future of the club under our ownership.

One thing that has never changed is the special spirit of this football club and, while there have been challenges, I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on the season just gone and reaffirm our absolute commitment to Watford Football Club.

I realise we have a responsibility to make this club the very best that it can be and I am energised in my determination to make Watford competitive, successful and challenge for a return to the Premier League.

This is a responsibility we all take incredibly seriously. The Championship is tough because there is a depth to the competition which makes it one of the hardest leagues in the world.

But I have seen real signs this season that we have the talent within our squad to challenge for the play-off places next season and, hopefully, promotion.

Yes, there has been a lack of consistency at times which saw us drop away when I thought we could be in the top six, but we have a group of highly talented young players who will only have benefitted from the experience of this season and what it means to compete in the Championship.

Tom is a bright young coach who has a real future in the game, but he needs time to gain experience and in football time is a precious commodity. I felt, to achieve our immediate aims next season, we need a more experienced coach to get the best out of our squad.

Results and performances, certainly after Christmas, were those of a club in a relegation fight and we couldn’t allow that momentum to continue into the next campaign.

I have seen the reaction, and I accept that. I realise there will be some fans who, no matter what we say, are not going to agree with us. This is normal; it’s football and I respect that the game is all about strong opinions.

What I will say is that we believe we have made the correct decision for the good of the football club. That is the basis for every decision we take.

Going forward, we will do everything in our power to keep those more experienced players in our squad to help the younger members in their development.

We are not abandoning the model which has served us well over the years: identifying youth and developing it. But we recognise the need to keep this current squad together and build on it if we want to be successful.

The club will never be jeopardised financially, but we will do everything possible to provide stability and growth where the playing side is concerned.

To those who may not agree with everything that has happened, I can assure you we all recognise our responsibility to the football club, and we take every decision for the benefit of Watford.

That is what we strive for every single day, and we will continue to do so throughout the summer and into next season.

Thank you

It was a poor decision in the first place. Limited experience of coaching nevermind management. They have some useful players and it looked like if they were properly coached they would have been in play off contention. It has been a long time since I have seen a squad of players properly lose their **** in the way did against us. They then followed that up with another red card in the game immediately after that.
