Eurovision
Bloody hilarious. Most of them can't stand us, but they all have to present their votes in English. Obviously Ukraine likes us.

Re: Eurovision
Mate of mine absolutely LOVES it, I can’t get my head round it.
All I see is a mash up of a popularity contest and another gay pride event. I really don’t get it whatsoever.
Pointless and irrelevant. To me at least…

Re: Eurovision
First time for a few years that the best song did not finish second.
Our song was odd, in that the more you hear it, the more annoying it got, and most of the eurovision fans that vote will have heard it lots. The guy that won it had an amazing range, and was very likeable. Glad the you tube guy that couldn't sing in tune didn't manage to get his followers to get him to win, although his song was catchy, and he performed it better in the final.
There are countries that have a distinct advantage over others in the popular voting, of course. Poland, Ukraine, Italy have loads of people living in the other countries that can vote for "their" song, whereas smaller countries have to rely wholly on the song, or the performer.
All in all though, it's just a bit of fun each year.

Re: Eurovision
Stopped watching when Wogan left. I used to love his "one liners."

Re: Eurovision
Didn't we finish second a couple of years ago when we had a half decent song? Anyway, I didn't watch it because it's not my kind of thing, but at least it gives people something else to get worked up about.summitclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 17, 2025 11:19 pmBloody hilarious. Re: Eurovision
Some people seem to take it far too seriously, and believe it is still actually a song contest.
Just have a few beers - it really is one of the funniest things on tv all year.

Glad the best song one. Would have hated to see Israel win it.

Re: Eurovision
The Estonia entry was class.
For some reason they just decided to take the **** out of the Italians with a novelty act highlighting Italian slang.
Best of all the Italians gave it 10 points.
Everything else just boring, including the winner being yet another ‘let’s sing a ballad on helium’ entry.

Re: Eurovision
I rarely watch it. I reckon I've only watched it 2 or 3 times ever. But I watched it all last night. Really enjoyed it. Graham Norton had me in stitches quite a few times - I think he is hilarious.
The Estonia entry was fabulous. Not the best song. Or performance. But very entertaining. Hilarious that for all the talk beforehand of it insulting Italy that the Italians gave it more points than anyone except San Marino
I dont get the comment about the Austria entry being a ballad on helium. That guy is massively talented, and his performance was a step above anyone else. A deserved winner
I'm also trying go to get my head around the Israel vote. Decent performance. Fair enough. But fairly forgettable. And the jury didnt think much of it. Yet got public vote points from every country except Croatia. Even Ukraine gave them points. Got a full 12 from UK, France, Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland, Australia, and the Rest of the World. And, unsurprisingly, Azerbaijan (who gave them a full 24 pts). I'd be really interested to know the demographics of who voted for who
