Yeah thats the headline from the u21s isnt it? I'd like him to find a home in L2 or L1 and get some regular first team football and see if he can kick on. Same with all the departing younger players tbf.

Me too. Must’ve been a longer contract than originally reported or an extension signed at some point.claretlegend wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 10:12 amI thought Obafemi was out of contract this summer. Clearly not.
Trouble is that his recent loans don’t suggest we’ll have much luck finding another Championship club willing to take him on.

It did but I've just returned it to uk/23 - I picked up the 2025 from another website but Burnley never confirmed his permanent signing - I've also no idea on the contract lengths for Anthony, Edwards, Flemming or Humphreys. Although we've confirmed they have signed, no contract length has been given.

Re: Retained list.
Take your point but with Redmond, Shelvey, Sarmiento, and possibly Egan-Riley, Brownhill and Barnes to depart (hopefully not), there are a few spaces in the squad at least initially.
Few of those lads would be ripe for a loan to Dundee, you’d expect too.
Re: Retained list.
I don't think the four have actually signed yet, the article I read say they're signing in the summerClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 10:38 amIt did but I've just returned it to uk/23 - I picked up the 2025 from another website but Burnley never confirmed his permanent signing - I've also no idea on the contract lengths for Anthony, Edwards, Flemming or Humphreys. Re: Retained list.
If we keep Ekdal, we'll might also have Esteve, Bayer, Humphreys, Worrall & Egan Riley.
Isn't that too many centre halves, presuming Pires plays at left back and not Humphreys.

Re: Retained list.
Westley is the one confusing me.
He's not listed by the club as a player returning from loan and the club themselves show his contract as ending this summer although he isn't on the released or in talks list.

I would think there are doubts about a couple of those being up to playing in the Premier League for differing reasons

Sad about Lewis Richardson i had high hopes for the lad but injuries look like they took it's toll, he was the best youngster i had seen for a long time playing 2 years above is age and scoring for fun , just hope he can still make it in the lower league...

I’m surprised loan players can sign before the window opens. Which, thinking about it, leaves me unsure where that leaves us with the out of contract players? Maybe we can’t sign them now either?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 10:48 amI know at least one of them has already signed but I'd have thought the contract lengths would have been sorted in any case.
Re: Retained list.
The only one I could see leaving is Bayer. Worrall is quite useful for "all hands on deck" type of defending, which we may need many times next season.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 10:55 amI would think there are doubts about a couple of those being up to playing in the Premier League for differing reasons

Re: Retained list.
Beyer didn't exactly have a fast turn of speed before his injury, (although I was a great admirer of his short surging runs through midfield) so I don't suppose he'll have got any faster with his long layoff.
I don't think he's quick enough for the PL.

The loan players were signed with obligations that were triggered. As for out of contract players, they can sign deals at any time as Roberts did recently. They are not subject to any windows.

Re: Retained list.
I know I was heavily criticised for my view but I thought he looked way below the level too often in the Premier League although admittedly inexperienced at that level. He's been out for a season and a half now, was limping noticeably on the pitch too in the celebrations.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 11:15 amBeyer didn't exactly have a fast turn of speed before his injury, (although I was a great admirer of his short surging runs through midfield) so I don't suppose he'll have got any faster with his long layoff.

I love Barnes as he has been a great Burnley servant, player, footballer and personality BUT if he stays should he part of the 25 man squad?claretlegend wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 10:06 amBarnes offered a new deal by the looks. Brilliant news, even if he doesn't play much.
Re: Retained list.
Beyer probably needs a good loan move to get playing football again. Thats if he is over his injury by pre-season. Ekdal isn’t the answer in the Prem. I’d hope we are in the market for at least 1, if not 2 cb’s, particularly given I expect a back 3/ 5 more often this season, as well as Humphreys to play left back.

I too noticed his gait with the celebrations after the Millwall game AND it wasnt just a bit of a limp either. I fear for his footballing career-but hope I am wrong.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 11:24 amI know I was heavily criticised for my view but I thought he looked way below the level too often in the Premier League although admittedly inexperienced at that level. Honestly i'd rather Barnes be a playing coach with the u23s. I really don't see a place for him in the 25 if we are serious about staying up.

I agree though, we need far better for the PL.
Re: Retained list.
No real surpsises there - possibly Redmond who if fit would provide some valuable experience. Don't know enough about the younger lads to comment - other than Richardson who on the odd occasion I saw him looked good, injuries have held him back sadly.

Redmond is only 31. He’ll probably fancy being a regular starter somewhere.

The other possibility is that he signed a new deal before going to Swindon and the club haven't broadcast that change....

Players returning from loan
Oluwaseun Adewumi
Zeki Amdouni
Darko Churlinov
Dara Costelloe
Hannes Delcroix
Owen Dodgson
Hjalmar Ekdal
Andreas Hountondji
Han-Noah Massengo
Michael Mellon
Michael Obafemi
Sam Waller
Crikey that’s a lot still to get off the books.
As well as those that are only bit part players in the current squad.
Looks like another busy Summer.

Re: Retained list.
Its an awkward one for the club, send him out on loan, he does well and leaves on a free or offer him a deal after 2 years out and hope he makes a full recovery.
Really feel for the lad
Re: Retained list.
You can sign a player at any time - what you can't do is register him.
A few years ago Leicester signed someone 17 seconds after the window shut. They had to pay the transfer fee and pay his wage for half a season while waiting for the next window to open. It was obviously a mistake, they got the paperwork wrong, but it shows it could be done.
So if a player is out of contract or if a fee is agreed with his club, he can be signed to a binding contract today and registered in the next window.
We signed Roberts to an extension in March, remember.

Quite a few of those are barely Championship quality let alone Premier League so need moving on ideally.MrTopTier wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 12:51 pmPlayers returning from loan

You’d imagine it would be time for Dodgson and Costelloe to move on, for the sake of their own career if nothing else. Imagine they are available on small fee deals with sell-ons, like we did with Dunne, Phillips and the like.

Of all those returning from loans at the most would only keep Amdouini and Ekdal as none of the others no where good enough
A big job for Matt Williams

Apart from Zeki and Ekdal we need to try and move the others out on loan again or sell them. Keeping them is certainly going to affect our PL budget,

Re: Retained list.
If we decide to move on every player that might not be good enough for the Premier League it will be a lot of work, but I think that would be very short sighted. A number of those would be more than good enough in the Championship so we need to be careful not to cut too deep in my view.warksclaret wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 2:06 pmOf all those returning from loans at the most would only keep Amdouini and Ekdal as none of the others no where good enough

Loans hopefully with a few of the better ones, although some contracts will be close to expiring too, so that may influence things.

Re: Retained list.
Re: Zeki. I saw it reported that our deal was €18m to buy or if they didn’t take the option, they had to pay another €2m loan fee taking it to €4m for the season.
So maybe a bit of extra transfer cash in the coffers, with a decent player back in the squad.
