Recent science has shown an ice bath has zero impact on increasing muscle repair after injury/exercise. Every bugger is probably now trying to shift them.

I picked up a large chest freezer with my friend a couple of weeks ago that he is going to spruce up and use as an ice bath. He does a lot of breath work and is a big fan of Wim Hof.

Funny how they never come with instructions on "how to get out".

Back under Coyle there was a load of players using wheelie bins as ice baths at training. Grezza did it and got other players on board. He claimed it was the secret to his longevity.brexit wrote: ↑Mon May 19, 2025 7:25 pmnot sure about this

Do you have a link?ollieclarets8 wrote: ↑Mon May 19, 2025 6:38 pmRecent science has shown an ice bath has zero impact on increasing muscle repair after injury/exercise. Every bugger is probably now trying to shift them.
I've seen a lot of suggestions that ice baths boost the immune system and reduce inflammation. A bit like cold water swimming which has become really popular.

Re: o/T how many people
Getting in cold water or exposing your body to very cold temperatures ( the sea / a plunge pool / ice bath / whatever ) causes blood vessels to constrict in a process called vasoconstriction. That's proven medical science.
When people say getting into cold water "takes your breath away" they quite literally mean it, because the skin's cold receptors are taking blood away which would normally be in your lungs. It's why drowning in water is not necessarily caused by the depth or the lack of skill to swim, that the victim cannot physically take in oxygen that they normally would and generally panics.
There are plenty of health - biological and mental - benefits to cold water exposure.

Whilst Hof is an interesting and credible character, a few years back BBC had a few scientists on a radio documentary discussing the topic.Anonymous Claret wrote: ↑Mon May 19, 2025 8:08 pmI picked up a large chest freezer with my friend a couple of weeks ago that he is going to spruce up and use as an ice bath. The consensus was nothing beneficial happens to our bodies .
The main man on the programme works regularly with elite european soldiers and tested them thoroughly after subjecting them to all manner of tests, end result, bugger all sadly .
