Re: International fan of the season?
Would find it difficult to find a way of criticising this.
To be honest I do get the club would see it as highlighting; and potentially encouraging, what is probably a pretty small (but I guess they’d be keen to expand) international fan base.
Feel like those negative about this have probably become quite adept at finding a way to criticise the club.

Re: International fan of the season?
Tbf there is another vote for fan of the season (UK based). But I do agree, just make special shoutouts to people, it doesn’t need to be a competition.dvalley69 wrote: ↑Wed May 21, 2025 10:30 pmIn modern day football, I'd hazard a guess that most fans make a lot of effort and spend a lot of hard-earned cash to follow our team, not just those who come from abroad.
Why make it a contest? Just acknowledge it and give all those 3 fans recognition, for example.
Lots of fans go under the radar and don’t shout about it on social media etc. People who haven’t missed games in season but aren’t arsed for the recognition.
Anyway good look Zizkov, hope you win, you got my vote.

i have to class myself now as a international fan who as supported the Clarets for over 50 years but it doesn't make me any better than anyone else we are all true Clarets when we step on the Turf...

It's a bit of harmless fun and a way to appreciate the efforts some fans have gone through. Fans moan the club make the fans feel unwanted then when they think of an initiative to thank fans they get criticism for it.
We all spend a lot of money to watch our team but not close to the amounts it must cost some of these fans to come from abroad, imagine the time and planning involved. We give the club a few hours for a home game, international fans have to give days.

Re: International fan of the season?
Depends where you're coming from in the UK; 4/5hr drives with petrol costs and the like could easily be more expensive than cheap Ryanir flights from Europe. I've done plenty of games over the years and got return flights for €40 and stayed at my parent's house, and then got a lift to the airport. Cost me much less than people driving from Devon, let's say.bumba wrote: ↑Thu May 22, 2025 12:36 amHow is it a contest?

But contrary to what you think, I wasn't criticising it but just responding to what CT was saying in that there shouldn't really be a difference made between any fan. Every one has a reason for it, makes a big effort and sacrifices their own finances - why the popularity contest? But it ain't that big a deal in the grande scheme of things.

Great stories. Incredible how the club can affect you from afar when you’ve never even been to the town. Also, the dedication of travelling across the globe so regularly is amazing. Well done to all 3 and they are all winners.

Re: International fan of the season?
Can't disagree. It's a marketing thing and trying to drive engagement. Maybe some other people will think "Oh, maybe i could fly over for a game too", maybe not. I don't think i'll be getting paraded around the ground anytime soon, don't worryStalbansclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 22, 2025 8:39 amThere really are some weird people on here at times. Re: International fan of the season?
I quite like reading the lengths people go to in order to watch Burnley, there's been plenty of threads on here about how people have travelled to certain games in the past.
As long as it's just a bit recognition then it's fine. The problem for me would be if these type of competitions resulted in some type of prize, such as a free season ticket or similar, I think we've moved on from the time certain fans were treated differently by the club ( apart from the loyalty points system)

Re: International fan of the season?
I think anyone who is so dedicated deserves a free season ticket. I will never again moan about my 560 mile return drive or a £120 train ticket to sit in my seat. I consider myself dedicated, my family (at least some) think I'm obsessed. Still they'll soon hear we are moving sticks and returning north after 44 years ....now that is dedication lol.
I voted, but I wanted to vote for all 9 in the 3 categories.

Those that live local and can attend every game are the lucky ones. I quite like this initiative even if it doesn’t serve any purpose beyond fan engagement. Some interesting stories.
