Whatever he’s referred as…I’ll now call him Wooderful
- a remarkable generous gesture!
I’ve criticised him for admitting being in his comfort zone at the end of being Claret but this is so impressive!

There's certainly something fishy about this, until I see confirmation from a reliable source I'm calling the report bull**it

Brilliant how he supported NZ Clarets who also had his mum & dad at meet ups.

Except it wasnt just something we could read on the Newcastle site…. We could see it week in, week out whilst he was drawing a wage from us.
For me, the point stands.

As said, something for their benefit and don’t reflect the way he’s played. Will always think it was ridiculous to sell him and bring in Weghorst.

What a great guy. Interestingly although it makes no real difference the article is dated May 2025 but refers to comments made by the Forest Manager Steve Cooper.

If memory serves we didn't have a choice, didn't Newcastle trigger a release clause?

So we were led to believe but didn’t it transpire that the clause could only be triggered in a summer window?

The club must've been lying when they put the statement out on the transfer then.

When Dyche was doing his rounds of podcasts and youtubes and so on after being sacked he also said they'd triggered a release clause.

Mere mortals such as myself don't have inside information but from what I understood Newcastle triggered a clause of let's say 20 mill. Newcastle sweetened the pot with an extra 5 mill to bring the transfer forward to the winter window.

I've had to spend ages on here defending Chris Wood even though he has a better than 1 in 3 goal scoring return. Does not surprise me at all he has done well at Forest.
I think he did very well for Newcastle but didn't score the goals to reflect his contribution.
With the regard to the 'comfort zone' comment I think he was probably just reflecting on what happened in his last season and being self critical. I don't think it means he couldn't be bothered. But some folk seem to have to deliberately misinterpret people's words.

The inference has to be yes. This would be a problematic position for Burnley FC, given Newcastle and third parties such as agents also had access to the detail, not to mention the player. It was quite an emotive transfer at the time, so a risky move from the club if not accurate.

I have no thoughts either way on the Chris Wood deal but I reckon the club (or someone representing them) lie on an almost daily basis.
So it would be no shock.

The consensus in the media is that Newcastle triggered a clause but it would have suited everyone to claim that there was a release clause. Burnley who didn't have to admit they just sold a player. Newcastle for paying such a high fee and the player for whom the story somewhat over shadowed the fact he was jumping ship.
And not entirely untrue if there was a summer clause and Burnley allowed Newcastle to trigger it early.
I'm not convinced but given some of our Chairman's declarations on issues like Chines investment or Tresor it wouldn't surprise me either.

Just read any ticket or Season ticket thread on here.
Thinking about the Wood deal. Newcastle paid in two installments which is very rare for forcing a club to sell.
We needed the money as we took a loan out on the 2nd installment that cost us 1.1m or so.

I think it is very straightforward. If there was no release clause at the time Newcastle approached Burnley, there was no option to trigger at a certain price.

Well I suppose you could take the generous approach and say he scored better than 1 in 3 for us but eventually the malaise of the takeover. the age of the squad and the number in it whose contract were due to end without any real chance of renewal took it's toll on all the players.
Or you can, say he wasn't trying.
