I just said he was a top quality goalkeeper who didn’t play that often for usfidelcastro wrote: ↑Sat May 31, 2025 2:49 pmI never thought he was that great for us. Especially after who we've been privileged to see afterwards with the likes of Heaton, Pope and Trafford.

Re: Lee Grant
Coyle used to hate Kiraly. I remember in the 07/08 season, Jensen was making mistake after mistake, finally got dropped, Gabor came in, one mistake against Wolves and never played again. Was even behind Diego Penny in the reserve team the season after

Re: Lee Grant
Kiraly was weird, should have been a star keeper for us but it all went wrong.
Who was it on the old MB who called him a clown?

Re: Lee Grant
Spot on, and having him on the bench for the reserves was appalling. But if you dared to question Coyle then you were banished.matttheclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 31, 2025 3:25 pmCoyle used to hate Kiraly. He had a good career but was awful for us. Proper awful.
The memory of him chasing a player back after going up for a corner in his pyjama bottoms will never be forgotten.

Re: Lee Grant
I liked Marriott and thought he’d have a better career than he did. Although did ok. Similar beresford. Excellent for us though at third tier level. Nicky walker im sure he kept a record run of clean sheets for us. Michopoulos when he first came in was brilliant. Although probably a bit of novelty to it too. Pearce was a cult hero. And beast I would definitely have in our top keepers in the last 50 years. We’ve definitely had better since. But he was what we needed at the time. And cost us bugger all when we had Bugger all. Fought off every other keeper who came in. And played a huge part in getting us up and then was first ever premier league keeper. Will never forget his clean sheets and penalty save against United. Great times. He had his howlers but overall was a very good keeper for us and underrated. Probably because of what came after him. Can’t think of many if any better before him (post dropping out of the top flight in the 70s).Enola Gay wrote: ↑Sat May 31, 2025 1:13 pmA list of selected Burnley keepers from my first season in 1986/87...
Joe Neenan, Chris Pearce, David Williams, Andy Marriott, Nicky Walker, Wayne Russell, Frank Petter Kval, Craig Mawson, Nik Michopoulos, Luigi Cennamo, Marlon Beresford (2nd spell), Danny Coyne, Nathan Abbey, Paul Rachubka, Brian Jensen, Diego Penny, Alex Cisak, Matt Gilks, Adam Legzdins, Will Norris, Wayne Hennessey, Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Vaclav Hladky.
I've left a few out because they were on loan or obvious last-resort jobs and tried to keep it to players who either played or made the bench regularly, and if you think Lee Grant is bottom-five in that list your seat doesn't face the pitch.
