Your sporting dream?

Post by Tricky Trevor » Wed Jun 04, 2025 10:09 pm

Well I’m old enough to have had them all.
Scoring a Cup Final Wembley winner for our Clarets.
Winning the World Cup
Winning Wimbledon
Winning the Tour de France
Winning the Olympic Marathon or 1500m.
Scoring a century to win the Ashes

You can only choose one.
Winning Wimbledon for me. Them guys are amazing athletes.

Own goal for Blackburn at Ewood against Burnley. Shirt off to reveal a Payton style natural born claret shirt. And run straight for the tunnel!

has to be the cup final winner for Burnley, in my dream it would be against arsenal and in late, late, added time
huge delay in VAR, but ultimately is given although its clearly a mile offside.
Arteta rants and raves, and almost cries on the sky post match interview, he leaves an empty wembley to find his car is on bricks and is ticketed for a parking illegally.
He gets sacked, and a week later gunners put in an offer for me, clarets accept £150.000.000.
following season I score an unprecedented 100 own goals and get them relegated.
Scotty likes my style and brings me back to the Turf on a ten year deal.......(could happen)

Score a century to win the Ashes. Here at the MCG, Boxing Day Test. going 2 up in the series with one to play. Hopefully someone in the current England side will do exactly this this Christmas!

With Stokes our captain, we’ll bring the urn home!!

Winning "The Open" at St Andrews. That walk down the 18th over the Swilken Bridge with massed crowds either side applauding. Brings goose bumps.

Burnley to win the Premier League. Or Champions League. I suppose if it's a dream scenario I might as well chuck in the FA Cup at the same time.

Any of the above will do :)

Playing 2nd Row for England at Twickenham, running out very impressively, belting out the National Anthem whilst looking up to the Stand to see my glassy eyed wife and parents beaming down with pride ... winning the first line-out, but it usually ends with me being laid spark-out by a huge Frenchman ...

Distinguished former playing colleagues have been kind enough to say I am very modest about my playing career ( decent junior Club standard ), to which I tend to reply, " Yes, but then again, I have a great deal to be modest about ! "

Probably winning the Snooker at the Crucible. I'm approaching an age where combining sporting excellence with longish periods of having a nice sit down appeals to me. Plus it's easy to get into Sheffield from ours so I'd be home for tea.

That would be mine too. Set 130 to win, I carry my bat for 100* after collapsing to 50 for 9, reaching my century & winning the game with a 6 off Steve Smith.

Tiddlywinks world championship final.

The last tiddle - it needs to drop - one little chip and the plastic counter skirts the rim of the cup and finally, agonisingly, drops in! The remaining 2 people in the crowd who have stayed awake go as wild as their zimmers allow as I bask in winking glory.

My sporting dream is complete. After several relegations and the depths we sunk to, all I ever wanted was a return to the top division. I chucked many a coin in a wishing well or fountain in the 70’s, only thinking of one thing. Now I’ve seen us in the Premier League, in Europe, win play offs, and regularly beat those Blackburn Bastards. Plus over the last 20 years I’ve been accompanied by my boys. Sporting dream completed.

My son plays hockey to a high level. I’ve lived one dream, being in the crowd (in Buenos Aires) watching him line up for the national team for the anthem. Cried my eyes out. Dream now is to see him at the Olympics.
