Lancashire League Wekeender

Post by Hopey » Fri Jun 06, 2025 2:56 pm

Lowerhouse are on the road for all 3 games this weekend.

Nelson in the T20 tonight. Rochdale in the league tomorrow and Netherfield in Kendal for the LKO Cup on Sunday.

We've recruited Will Williams (NZ/Lancs) as stand in pro for tonight and tomorrow, opting to play an all amateur side on Sunday.

Looks like all 3 of our opponents stream their games on youtube for anyone not travelling

Do well to win up at Netherfield without a pro.

It is what it is, LKO is a bonus anyway.

As long as we are still top of the prem at the end of the weekend it will have been good

A young Rawtenstall team beat Middleton by 6 wickets. A rare moment winning a 20 over match!

Burnley have beaten Rishton by one run.

Rishton needed 9 off the last two balls and hit a 6 off the first of them. Last ball they scored one and then suffered a run out going for the second.

Sub pros were a rare thing years ago because of the league’s stringent rules. Thankfully we are long past that now. It would be downright ridiculous not to allow a club to use a sub pro and it's a shame that this county competition doesn't permit it, more so when the regular pro has a genuine injury.

Exactly, trust me, no club wants to fork out £600+ extra every game to get a sub pro unless they've no choice.
Theyre hard to find as well, and you dont want to bring a bang average one in for the sake of it when youve to pay them that sort of money.

Back in the day you had to have a pro - simple as that. I can remember a couple of occasions in the 1970s with Burnley. In 1977 the pro didn't turn up for the game at Church and Burnley had to play with ten players. Burnley v East Lancs in 1978, pro Shafiq Ahmed had been ordered home to Pakistan and in came Lancashire second team player Geoff Trimm. He didn't bowl and got a duck.

A pro was banned from the league if he left before the end of the season too. It might not have been such a problem then but I bet it is a lot harder now.

I wonder if Lowerhouse will have to pay the sub pro today even if the game is canceled due to weather ? And will they still have to pay the full time pro while he is injured ? Expensive times if they are committed to both

Not bothered travelling today with the iffy weather. Spent too much of my life already at Rochdale in the rain :D

Another Paddy Martin masterclass, 4th highest wicket taker in Lowerhouse history, overtaking Finchy.
Currently with figures of 13/5, from 6, with 4 wides

Ours started as a 28 over game.

The walsden one probably reduced overs mid game
