Forest v Burnley League Cup 1990
Watching the latest Stick to Football broadcast with Mark Crossley prompted me to think that he must have been in the nets the night that Forest beat the Clarets 4 - 1 in the League Cup 1st leg at the City Ground. Also a young Roy Keane was in the Forest side and he scored and set one up. Nigel Clough, Brian Laws and Psycho Pearce also played.
I've just discovered that there was some footage of the game which brought a few memories back of quite a tumultuous evening's entertainment.
Critics of Phil Bird might well want to listen to one possible alternative.

The ref was David Ellery who did a great job in later years at the Stockport play off final but had a bit of big club bias on this particular evening.
Can you spot the mistakes that VAR might well have corrected?

Stuart Pearce put David Hamilton out of the game for nearly a year

Back in the day when Burnley did individual full match videos, I had this even though I'd attended the match at the City Ground, many Burnley fans missed kick off due to the large following and bad traffic.
The commentary as you say is something very special and not in a good way. Three highlights I can remember are;
1. You'll have to excuse me I'm a rugby league commentator.
2. Referring to Joe Jakub has a youngster.
3. On showing the Burnley fans celebrating Peter Mumby''s equaliser on the night, "The Burnley fans are static".

He also appeared to be calling Jakub, 'Jakubs'.

I went to that game, we had a good following. Haven’t seen the footage before. Some meaty challenges going in but that’s no surprise with Pearce and Keane playing. Don’t think the final score was a fair reflection of our performance.

Some Burnley fans were waiting for Pearce when he turned up for the second leg. He needed a police escort to get him into the ground.

He reminds me of the rugby league commentator who did this legendary bit of commentary in a Castleford v Wigan matchdepechedingle wrote: ↑Sun Jun 08, 2025 3:26 pmBack in the day when Burnley did individual full match videos, I had this even though I'd attended the match at the City Ground, many Burnley fans missed kick off due to the large following and bad traffic.
