"Tougher Than the Rest" by Emmylou Harris.

Only started listening to Emmylou Harris last year. Fantastic singer who has become more eclectic over the years.

A couple of tracks for the oldies on here. 'Baby It's You' was released by The Shirelles in 1961, an excellent song from a much underrated African- American girl group. The Beatles covered it on their first album, 'Please Please Me' a little later and I think surpassed the version by The Shirelles.
Again, The Shirelles released 'Dedicated To The One I Love', but for me once more were out performed a number of years later by the 'Mamas and Papas' creating harmonies that could only be described as 'sent from God'.

Joe Cocker’s version of “a little help from my friends” is 100% better than Ringo Starr’s. Mind you that wouldn’t be hard !!!

Blondie's 'Hanging on the Telephone' was a great cover, but the original wasn't half bad either:

Yes I agree. I bought Pin Ups on vinyl when it came out so I'm very familiar with Bowie's version of Sorrow. Much better than either of the 60s hit versions (the Mccoys in USA and the Merseys in Uk which are both much of a muchness). The saxophone on Bowie's version totally transforms the song.

Yep I’ve still got the album in a picture disc vinyl on the original label. I don’t have a record player anymore but my collection of vinyl Bowie records will be worth a fair amount of cash - many of them on the original orange label RCA Victor

Always surprised how many songs I hear and don’t realise they are cover versions.

Didn't being on 'Pin Ups' give you a bit of a hint?

I always liked Bowie but there were other artists I preferred, so whilst I listened to him on the radio, I never bought an album. I was probably aware of the album title but didn't put it together with the song we're talking about.
