Ashes Down Under 25/26
Are there any Clarets intending to travel to Australia for the Ashes later in the year?
For myself, especially those coming to Melbourne for Boxing Day. I will be organising a room for us to watch the Clarets at the Imperial Hotel, on whatever day we play over Christmas.l
We share the pub with several clubs. Man City, Liverpool, Spurs & wolves. Also it will be the same pub used by Englands Barmy Army. Should be a great atmosphere.

Tickets went on sale to “Australian Cricket Family” last Tuesday. General sale was yesterday.
Strange decision was, they allowed ACF members to buy upto 9 tickets each.

A few different people from Padiham cricket club are going over.
A few went to the Melbourne Clarets meet up for the Man U game last time.
One of the lads has been ringing all the aussie cricketers he played with in the 80s/90s for accommodation.

Re: Ashes Down Under 25/26
Was thinking about it but work/finances made it unrealistic unfortunately. Watching the Aussies against South Africa they're incredibly average. Decent bowling attack but their batting is poor. If the likes of Root and Brook can perform no reason why we can't go down there and win.

I’m over for the Perth Melbourne and Sydney tests so will take a note of the hotel and hopefully catch you when the Burnley game is on.

That would be my concern. Bad enough at Sheffield Wednesday.

Re: Ashes Down Under 25/26
Not really necessary. The ground floor is massive. That will accommodate the barmy army no problem. On the first floor there is another large room, plus 2 smaller ones. Then there’s also a big rooftop bar.
Also, being Melbourne Clarets we get 20% off all food and drinks. Unfortunately this is now closed to new members for us. But I recommend looking at the Barmy Army website for the link to this offer.

My son has invited me and the Missus to Brisbane where he lives, for Christmas and New Year. Oh bloody great I think...get to see the Ashes at the Gabba. Went looking to book tickets... OH NO. For the first time in 43 years the 1st test is not being played at Brisbane for some reason and at the complete other side of the country in Perth!!??

Re: Ashes Down Under 25/26
Hi Rammy, after a few years of hard saving we will be in Australia this Christmas and have tickets for the Boxing Day Test. Was wondering if you could recommend anything to do or where to eat on Christmas Day in Melbourne?RammyClaret61 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 14, 2025 1:55 amAre there any Clarets intending to travel to Australia for the Ashes later in the year?

Have seen that the Barmy Army are having a Christmas Dinner and party at the Paladium Ballroom, Melbourne on 25/12 but was wondering what a POM may recommend?
Thanks
Re: Ashes Down Under 25/26
Just got 2 tickets for day 2 at Melbourne and 1 for day 3 for £81.50. Compare and contrast with the prices being charged at our home tests.

Brother lives in Melbourne so I’m nipping over for days 1&2 in Brisbane, then a few nights on the Gold Coast. We got tickets a few weeks ago through the Barmy Army pre sale code.RammyClaret61 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 14, 2025 1:55 amAre there any Clarets intending to travel to Australia for the Ashes later in the year?

If the pub is being used by the Barmy Army you should easily be able to purchase tickets for three times the face value. Good news for all.RammyClaret61 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 14, 2025 1:55 amAre there any Clarets intending to travel to Australia for the Ashes later in the year?

Re: Ashes Down Under 25/26
Got 4 (FOUR) tickets for day 1 at the G on Boxing Day for £77. (£19.25 per ticket) - 2 are concession in fairness.
Going to day 4 against India at Old Trafford with 4 mates so 5 tickets in total - £280. Therefore £56 per ticket.
I think know where the better value is.

Yes. I understood. I was backing up his point about the prices they charge for cricket in this country.Granny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 3:04 pmMy two tickets for Brisbane day 1&2 cost £80 total, so assume he means for all his tickets.

Re: Ashes Down Under 25/26
Sorry for the delay in replying. I’ve been trying to find out some info. A lot of places aren’t open Christmas Day, in fact you’ll find a lot of pubs in the suburbs are closed the whole Christmas period. I’ve contacted the Imperial Hotel. They haven’t decided yet if they’re open. You will find those that are open will have a minimum 20% surcharge on everything. This is due to them having by law to pay staff triple time, plus a days holiday in lieu.mybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 11:39 amHi Rammy, after a few years of hard saving we will be in Australia this Christmas and have tickets for the Boxing Day Test. If the Imperial is open. I’d suggest going on the Barmy Army website. They should, for Melbourne have a link to an app called “The Pass”. They will have a password. This will give you 20% off drinks and food in dozens of pubs and bars. Melbourne Clarets have this deal also. But unfortunately our password isn’t currently working for new sign ups.
I’ll post any info on places when I find out.
My advice, pack a picnic, go to the beach.

Cheers Rammy for all your help researching. We have booked in for the Paladium in Melbourne where the Barmy Army are having a Christmas Day bash, with a Christmas DinnerRammyClaret61 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 12:37 pmSorry for the delay in replying. I expected that many places would be closed on Christmas Day so we wanted to book as far in advance as possible, we did think about getting a picnic and going the beach before finding the Barmy Army party.
Will look into "The Pass" cheers Rammy.
EDIT: Posts see I have just repeated about the Paladium.
