Match report especially for FCBurnley.

On a gloomy day marked by persistent rain interruptions, Lowerhouse overcame Haslingden to complete a clean sweep of three wins across the weekend.

Haslingden won the toss and chose to field, making early inroads into the Lowerhouse batting lineup. Wickets fell steadily, with only captain Ben Heap offering major resistance with a composed 47. Paddy Martin played a crucial hand late in the innings, guiding the tail with an unbeaten 20. From a precarious 106 for 8, some determined lower-order batting pushed the total to a competitive 156 all out.

With rain threatening throughout, Lowerhouse struck early in the reply. Tom Walker continued his fine form with the new ball, including a stunning delivery that shattered the Haslingden professional’s stumps. Tom took 2 wickets with Joey Hawke taking 3 with some excellent, reliable as always bowling

Dan Salpietro then entered the attack and claimed three more, including a brilliant reflex caught and bowled, as Haslingden stumbled to 70 for 6.

With the rain returning for a fourth (or fifth) time, and we thought the match would eventually be curtailed.

The sun came out at 7.10 and we got back on. Toxy Hussain finished them off with 2 quick wickets House bowled Haslingden out for 89 handing Lowerhouse a deserved win and maintaining their unbeaten weekend.

House now sit 14 points clear at the top of the table.

That's a shocking result. What is going on with Burnley?
It is. Clearly something wrong as you say. Only 1 pro who is garbage doesn’t help but a lot of players not playing anywhere near their best. I have no idea why. Maybe the threat of relegation might concentrate their minds

I've a mate who's a big Burnley CC fan, he went to Middleton today. Said there were 4 of them there. Poor that

Not surprised to be honest. I remember very well when Lowerhouse didn’t get many more at home games until they started to get better players.

No you're right. Relegation is probably the best thing for a team like Burnley, a pro that's not good enough along with the rest of the team that don't look bothered. Go down, rebuild and come back. Would be the best way really

When your team is struggling season after season it's understandable...but Burnley are the reigning champions. Maybe if the supporters can't be bothered the players have thought the same?

Some low scores around today. Colne bowled East Lancs out for 66.

Sadly club cricket is struggling to survive. Look at East Lancs ! People have so many entertainment options these days and the facilities offered at most grounds is poor at best. Add the indifferent weather into the equation and you see why most clubs are poorly supported.

East lanca is the worst example you could give.

Local cricket is thriving, even at non prem level.

You only need to look locally at clubs like nelson, Colne, read, padiham.

All get decent support and a good offering

I agree with the above Rawtenstall was busy today until the rain came down. Ended up with a 7 run defeat to Bacup. Cracking game Bacup have an outstanding pro.

Managed to keep up with the score on Playcricket, for the final overs.
Bacup seemed to pull the rug from under us, with wickets & miserly bowling, late on? Disappointing.
Good to hear they'd a few on.

I've no axe to grind with Burnley, it's great to have 2 good teams in town, but what they need to do is spend some money. The club house is a **** hole compared to what you find elsewhere, really outdated, expensive drinks etc. They need to make it more appealing to families and non cricket fans and it could be really good, as outside is a sun trap

Cheap beer certainly seems to attract a certain clientele. Not sure how much cricket they watch but if the spend money and behave appropriately then it’s all good. Clearly the hard work at Lowerhouse has paid off over the last few years. Don’t know much about the operation at Burnley other than the car parking revenue which I guess pays the bills

Bit harsh that imo. It's tidy enough but it's small if you don't include the members bar upstairs. Lowerhouse isn't a lot bigger inside. The difference is the ground itself and the general vibe it creates. The spectators at Burnley tend to be concentrated at the pavilion as its not really a 360 ground like Lowerhouse. I always think that is detrimental to the experience.
The location too possibly has an effect. Lowerhouse is situated in a slightly more affluent area. It seems to attract a lot of families to games..lots of space around the ground for kids to play. This was noticeable today during the rain break when everyone squeezed into the clubhouse. Quite a few young families in there.
I think once it has that "beer garden" feel it then snowballs and attracts others to come.
I've been to watch House at Burnley numerous times now and the lack of families is very noticeable. That is what they need to address somehow so I agree with that.

Cheap for members. Which Burnley has a lot of compared to 3 or 4 years ago. As it says above. The issue comes when the weather is as bad as it has been for the last couple of weekends.

Ultimately with the Dyche, Turf and Park View around, we’re always going to struggle with people coming in, but we are trying to get people in. You have to start somewhere and get everyone pulling in the same direction. We’ll get there.

Well your mate is either blind or struggles counting. I accept there were not many there, but there was certainly a lot more than 4!

Unlike your 'mate' I didn't go round counting how many people from Burnley were there. However, there were several families of the players in attendance that I spoke to. Plus the dozen or so stalwarts that go to every game. I personally was sat with 3 others in front of the scorebox at the the start of the game.

Some Lancashire League clubs are almost a "pub with a cricket ground attached" and operate as such with a thriving pub trade (with meals etc) on many afternoons and evenings and catering for a lot of non cricketing people, hosting events and drawing heavily on the local community. The location of some others perhaps doesn't help in this respect and Burnley CC for all their football related revenue aren't going to attract many people outside of football at The Turf or cricket matches.
