Brownhill

Post by Clive 1960 » Sun Jun 15, 2025 12:00 pm

I know we have been down this road in the past but some posters said they heard he was signing a new contract a week or two back but so far nothing, it's getting worrying if he follows Egan out of the door aswell..

If only there was a window of opportunity for us to sign replacement/new players?

I stopped believing some time ago when those ITK claiming a player had signed a new contract . Same applies to new players seen at the training ground

It would be nice when I see a new thread about Brownhill it actually contained some new important information.

I know nothing about the situation, what I do know as Brownhill, Cullen and Laurent are not prem standard,so whether he stays or not we are going to have to bring in better

Convince yourself that everyone you would like to stay will leave. That way there will most likely be some good news at the end of the window.

If not, then at least you have prepared yourself for the worst possible outcome.

I’m sure we will bring in better. But I’d rather bring in better to supplement our captain and top scorer than have to replace him.

If it helps to reassure you, I have been told that he has already signed but the announcement video has hit copyright issues.

I doubt we will be buying lots of expensive players unless we sell a few.

I think a Laurent type player is key to the double pivot in the PL. Cullen is good enough in the PL but he hasn't got the legs to play by himself and I'm not sure the double pivot is Brownhill's best position. So, it wouldn't surprise me if Brownhill goes and is replaced by Laurent 2:0.

Saying that Brownhill on a free would be a great signing for lots of clubs because he drifts late into the box and has goals in the locker. Who doesn't want that kind of player?

I’ve never been a fan of Brownhill in the premier league, I have to admit after his goal return this season it made me think he’s going to be vital next season. But then I remember that he tends to go missing for lots of games in the championship but pops up with a vital goal after being quite frankly invisible, he won’t do that in the premier league, he’ll just be invisible without the goals. Happy to have him as a squad player, but he’s not going to take us to the next level, we need better.

Also Laurent is not the answer, our midfield is a joke tbh. I do think Cullen is good enough, but only just.

Midfield and full backs are our biggest weakness. Pires will get torn a now one as will Roberts in the premier league

Just remembered or striker situation too, it’s gonna be a long season

Brownhill - tend to agree. I’d like him to sign and it’s possible that he’s now at his peak and would do better in the Premier League, but the reality is that we have two relegations under our belts where he’s featured heavily in midfield. So I’d like to sign him for the likely relegation because he’s an excellent Chsmpionship player, but on the kind of money he’s demanding at £80k a week, I think an established Premier League midfielder becomes affordable and would probably be a better use of funds.

Midfield - completely agree that’s our weak spot. Agree Cullen just makes the cut. I think Laurent may surprise though, certainly in helping close out games.

Full backs - agree about Roberts, less so Pires. He’s fast, tall, has the attributes to be successful. You’d also expect him to improve after settling in the UK and team. I’d like to see us sign a starter but also Pires developed.

You could be right with Pires, I hope so. He’s improved hugely the last 4 months of the season and once Humphries went out injured I was seriously worried. He proved me wrong, but not many players that make suck a shaky start to their championship careers go on to succeed in the premier league

Pires isn’t tall, and he certainly isn’t 6ft 2. Some websites have him down as a fraction under 6ft, BFC’s site have him down as 5ft 9.

Firstly, I’m 1.82m and I tell people I’m 6ft so watch what you say :D

He definitely is not 5ft 9!!!

I think 6ft is pretty tall for a full back. A lot of them are a lot shorter. Connor Roberts is about 10cm shorter for instance. It’s rare you’ll get a full back much taller than 6ft but I’d like to see a whole back line 6ft plus at the start of next season, ideally.

I didn’t think he had a shaky start to be honest. Two assists in his first game and I thought we looked a much greater attacking threat as a team every time he played. In fact for large parts I thought we only looked half competent going forward when he played and got forward.

I don’t recall him costing us a single goal all season (not necessarily hard when you only concede 15). He did misplace a few passes and mis-control the ball a few times but that was about it for me. I thought he had an excellent season, one he grew in to as you would expect any foreign player to.

Very good potential but I do think we need Premier League experience in the back line which should take priority, and develop him alongside. No harm bringing him on left wing in games we need to see out, etc.

I was devastated recently to learn that I'm 5ft 10, when I'd been living a lie believing I was 5ft 11!!

I'm not sure where your stats are coming from, the official club website has both Roberts and Pires down as 5 ft 9 so I think it's doubtful there is 10cm between them. Either way I wouldn't consider Pires tall, and neither him or Roberts are strong in the air. Humphreys on the other hand is tall for a full back and that may well give him the edge going into next season.

I find it’s best to wear shoes when you’re being measured mate ;)

There’s no way Roberts & Pires are the same height. Pires is much taller. I think it depends who you’re comparing him to though. I’d say he’s tall for a full back, obviously less so a CB (Humphreys). I also thought he was fine in the air, or as good as Roberts and full backs usually are, anyway. Didn’t see him get beaten from what I can remember.

Do agree that Humphreys extra height might give him the advantage though, that’s a fair point.

Pires won 40% of aerial duels which put him in the bottom 15% of full backs in the league for this attribute.

Thats a bit extreme.

Cullen is very good on the ball. Composed and can pick a pass and keep it simple / neat and tidy. Something we need.

In the right set up I believe both he and Brownhill can be assets in The Prem.

Alongside a better version of Laurent (Who I also like) I feel we can be more than good enough to stay up with a midfield three of Cullen, Brownhill + ANOther.

A joke is OTT.

Fair enough. Still don’t recall him being particularly bad in the air, or it costing us at all.

To be honest, probably not something I paid a lot of attention to, but I think that’s a good thing. When Maatsen was in the team I constantly thought he was being targeted in the air and that it was a big risk.

Just take everything with a pinch of salt and don't stress about it.
Like most message boards, this one has it's fair share of posters who enjoy pretending that they're 'In the know' and/or that they 'have contacts' and to reinforce this deception (not least to themselves) you can guarantee that on those occasions when they, or their mate down the pub, has guessed correctly, they're back to tell us, while all their other drivel gets conveniently forgotten. While I'm sure there are some who do have 'contacts' at the club, they'll be smart enough to know that spilling the beans on a board like this one will ensure that they are not 'in the know' in the future.

In this case some very prominent posters were 100% certain he'd signed. Will be interesting see the outcome

Someone posted a few weeks ago they’d met him at a service station either Keele or Warwick and he’d divulged his next move over the urinal.

Surrey beat me to it

I thought Pope to Leeds was all done once their promotion had been confirmed, PC? Or that was another piece of duff info from you?

Because she thinks he's signing for AC Millan? My mates gf went to art college with her, she's always wanted to live in Italy, apparently.

You said he was off to Leeds now their promotion is confirmed, all agreed. Same as you said Tella to Burnley was done in summer 2023.

I'd be checking your sources if I were you. They've not got one right yet.

Took a few weeks off just in time for his Vegas and Bali trips. Smart move

Wait and see what happens sweet cheeks, it’s the fun of the window. Sometimes things go through, sometimes they don’t, nothing is done until it’s done.

Get on this one, we nearly ended up with Carrick when we appointed Kompany.

If you need a bit of attention, just ask next time. No need for all the flirting.

Yes, I did suspect this would turn out to be the case, hence my questioning of your info. Happy to oblige though, we all know where we stand now!

It has been a pleasure, now back to calling out one of the others. Assuming your better half is out the house tonight.

Why are some posters on here happy to endorse their storytelling as fact when really its only drivel?

Some people are a little strange aren't they!
