Came out with Bashir to answer a few questions, which for me raised more than it answered.

He very gingerly stepped up onto the stage, and very gingerly stepped down again. I thought to myself at the time he’s nowhere near the grass moving like that.

Hope I’m spectacularly wrong of course, but he wasn’t moving well.

Agree that he didn’t look great on the video at the fixtures launch. Hopefully his positivity means he will be back at some point. I think he’d really benefit from playing under Parker.

I think he may have developed complications following the initial injury.

Hopefully he gets back playing, to start with. After that, I suppose it’s a question of whether or not he can get back to his pre injury levels. Fingers crossed for him and us.

How long was the lad at Bournemouth out for (Brooks is it?)?

Pretty sure a young lad can get back to peak physical fitness and he won't have lost his touch or skill.

The only real question for me is whether the injury / problem will ever heal properly.

Brooks was out with Stage Two Hodgkin Lymphoma for around 18 months.

Problem with any serious injury is the actual injury and how well it recovers and how the brain responds
Most of us have 10 digits having only once put one near the fire and then never again
How committed will he be for 50:50 balls if he can get back playing; can he put this injury behind him now.

If the reports of walking gingerly at this stage after 18 month's of remedial surgery and rehab are anything to go by, I'd be surprised if he even gets back to combination level. There's been a handful of examples over the years, Jamie Redknapp being one, that have just given up because the injury has just been too severe, and it's my guess Beyer will be another one.

dont have to be an orthopaedic surgeon to come out pessimistic about his recovery to play at the level he achieved with us.
all Clarets wish him well of course but for those who have seen him recently he is way off full fitness. I think Tresor, assuming his abdominal scar is why he has been off, will be back sooner than Bayer

If things were looking as bleak as people on this thread are suggesting, surely he wouldn’t be coming out with the stuff he said in that interview, unless he’s the most optimistic man in football.

Beyer (excellent player btw) said quite publicly that his initial injury was mis diagnosed and therefore not treated properly and that was almost disastrous. It was only after a lengthy lay off and a seemingly interminable recovery that the mistake was eventually discovered and he had the actual operation he required and started recieving the correct rehabilitation. That was almost 12 months ago if I remember rightly, so it really is a very long and frustrating road and you do start to wonder whether there will ever be a happy ending sadly. I really hope so, but...

His was cancer so once clear it was a matter of getting fit again. I know that is much easier said than done but he didn’t have any injury to deal with that maybe hadn’t healed 100%.

You would imagine Beyer isn't naive enough to be excited about the upcoming season while having little chance of playing on grass.

Maybe while increasing intensity it leaves him stiff afterwards. He might well be moving poorly because of where he's at in his recovery, in a good way. But I'm no physio so pure guesswork

First off, he’s called Beyer.

He could be under an intense training regime and was simply stiff when walking on the video. Unlikely but possible.

You don’t have to be a medical expert, from limited video and photo evidence we’ve seen, to see that he’s still limping badly 18 months since the injury. That means there’s still something wrong. I’m sorry to say it (and I hope to God I’m wrong) but there doesn’t appear to be a cat in hell’s chance he’ll feature for Burnley in the Prem this season.

You lost me a little there? I never played in goal, but I chose that name for a personal reason. Chris Wood is still called "Woods" on here by many. It's not the only time players have had their name spelt incorrectly on here. Surely you must agree?

Sorry to all the medical & sports scientists on this thread but I’ve seen Bayer twice, outside the ground end of season & at Manchester airport, walking really well with no signs of a limp or injury, looked in great nick & taller than I thought.

He's been shown training with the squad on a few of the YouTube videos they put out so can't see this 'limp' being to do with him initial injury.
Maybe he's going through a vigorous training routine before pre season starts so that he's in the best position he can be to return and that he'd just had a tough session that morning.

I heard he's committed to playing Long John Silver in St Mary's Primary summer panto. Rehearsals are underway now so this could explain it if he's trying to stay in character.
