Lancashire League weekend thread

Post by Hopey » Thu Jun 19, 2025 2:45 pm

Only 2 games this weekend for Lowerhouses' First Team - Friday night T20 away at Dark Clouds' Great Harwood (which side are you picking? ), hoping to maintain the unbeaten run in T20 this year, and then 1st vs 2nd on Sunday at Clitheroe. Derby for the 3s away at Burnley on Saturday.

Great Harwood seems a bit of a pain in the backside to get to by public transport for a T20 on a Friday evening.

I would need to walk down from the top of Padiham to The Bridge to get the Accy bus then get some form of Hyndburn Circular bus to GH and then it could be a good walk to the ground (uphill ?).

Then you have to do it in reverse a couple of hours later.

Not sure.

So far as I know, clubs don't usually pay for damage to parked cars because it's your own choice whether or not to park there.

Interesting point and in my case the answer is no. Maybe some clubs do, not sure. Years ago when I was playing I remember it happening to a spectator and the club I was at paid the unfortunate chap out, but I suspect it's not the done thing nowadays and clubs say it's your own choice/risk and obviously the car owner has their own insurance. I had to drive my car home which wasn't easy (might not even have been legal!) and it took 5 days to get it replaced which was clearly a pain. My son, who's the player in the household these days, has actually smashed 2 windscreens (one front and one back) and he's not yet 24. The first one was a huge shock for a guy sitting minding his own business reading his Sunday papers when of course he should have been watching the game!!

It was never a done thing to pay out for damage by cricket balls as it is deemed accidental.

A couple who live over the road from Read cricket club took the club to court over a damaged solar panel and won 700 quid or something silly.

They did and I was chatting to someone in the know at Read CC very recently and I was told that the club immediately said they'd pay for the damage to the panels as an act of "goodwill" but the league ordered them not to as it would set a precedent and everything had to go through them. Thus it ended up as a legal wrangle which then didn't look good on the club unfortunately.

Surely clubs have a disclaimer sign visible, something like "park at your own risk"?

Evening Bob, very much touch and go when he was still in, he has it in his locker to chase that down, but they were collapsing around him, as soon as Salpi took his scalp it was pretty much game over, and mopped up nicely by the most accurate, line and length bowler in the league imo.

Off to Burnley for the band now if they've not packed up

Game four of the T20 campaign saw Lowerhouse on the road to Division Two outfit Great Harwood, with the hosts winning the toss and choosing to field first.

Lowerhouse responded by producing their second-highest T20 total in club history, racking up a dominant 214 for 2. The innings was built on a record-breaking opening stand of 116 between Dan Salpietro and Jonny Whitehead – the highest first-wicket partnership in Lowerhouse T20 history, surpassing the previous best of 109.

Salpietro was the first to fall, making 45, before Whitehead went on to smash 87, including three consecutive sixes. It was Jonny’s highest T20 score and saw him leapfrog Frankie Haasbroek to become Lowerhouse’s all-time leading run scorer in the format.

Haasbroek and Tom Walker then carried the momentum forward, adding 69 for the third wicket in a powerful finish. Frankie struck 32 from 18 balls, while Walker blazed an unbeaten 37 off just 12 deliveries.

Chasing 215, Great Harwood came out firing, racing to 43 inside three overs. Their professional, De Silva, led the charge and had 69 off 31 balls at the halfway mark with the home side 113 for 4. However, his teammates couldn’t stay with him.

From 105 for 4, Harwood collapsed to 129 all out, losing their final six wickets for just 24 runs. Toxy Hussain starred with the ball, claiming 3 for 8 from 2.5 overs. Salpietro added to his all-round performance with 2 for 7, while Walker took 2 for 10 – both from two-over spells.

My apologies in starting another thread. I did look to see if one was started and this wasn't showing near the top of the page.

A good night at GH. Pretty healthy crowd and a good game with some big hitting and cars in the firing line. Great entertainment (my car wasn't one of them  )

I know the Lowerhouse lot like to take the Mickey but looked a decent crowd on last night. Although if you can't get a crowd on an evening like that there's probably no hope.

Sorry pal. Only just seen this.

Clitheroe away tomorrow. Hit and miss whether they stream it. However Keith Fawcett follows Clitheroe and films every game and posts it a few days after to YouTube. Some great videos on there.

Big game tomorrow weather permitting.

Our stream are always on our YouTube. Search for it, and subscribe and you’ll get notifications every time we go live.
