Looks like they are going to promote Keith Andrews from set pieces coach to manager. Bit of a risk

Massive risk, I'd say. I can understand why they would want some continuity but a combination of a rookie manager and a team missing its best players could be disastrous.

I agree a massive risk and I can see Brentford down in/near the bottom 3 this season.

Fingers crossed that there will be more than 3 teams fighting relegation, unless of course we avoid being that close to the bottom three.

Think four out of the last five Brentford managers have been internal appointments so no real surprise.
Always talks a decent game does Andrews.
He’ll always be a ******* though :D

None of those appointments were made as a PL club though. I think that makes a big difference.

Be interesting to see how long they give him if things don’t start well.

That’s a fair point, they’re not really a club that’s a hire ‘em and fire em type though, so would expect them to give him a decent chance.

Despite being an ex *******, Andrews always came across as a very good pundit. No bias just common sense and honesty. I hope he does a good job.

Just not at our expense.......

I can genuinely remember very similar comments (not necessarily on here) when they appointed Thomas Frank .

Thomas Frank was, he was Dean Smith’s assistant but before him in reverse order were

Dean Smith
Marinus Dijkhuizen
Mark Warburton
Uwe Rösler

Warburton was definitely, like Frank, promoted from within.

The records show that Frank had previous managerial experience when he took the reins at Brentford and at the time they were a middish table Championship club. What he's done with them is outstanding, getting them promoted to the PL and following up with achieving 2 top half PL positions in 4 seasons.

Records show that Andrews has no management experience and would be taking over a Top 10 PL team.

If Andrews takes over, the pressure on him to achieve will be far greater than it was on Frank when he was promoted to Brentford manager from within.

This is a risk that the club seem willing to take. Whether that will make a difference we will soon find out.

Frank was appointed in the Championship with a strong team at that level though. He’d also managed previously in Denmark. This seems much riskier - big players leaving, including the captain, and bringing in a guy with zero managerial experience, who wasn’t even assistant last season.

For us to have a chance of staying up we realistically need somebody like Brentford to have a disaster of a season.

Rumour in the office today here in Dublin was that Damien Duff was going to be joining as assistant manager.

Surprised nobody has posted yet today about Keith Andrews being confirmed.

An ex Rover to add a bit of spice for us, no doubts in my mind they are rivals for the bottom three now. Lets see how many more players ask to go after Flekken, Damsguaard and Mbuemo.

Has a little bit of an Owen Coyle type feel about it. They will hope that their structure & recruitment are good enough to withstand a season of turmoil and come out of the other side, but the Prem is unforgiving.

In April he applied for the job at Milton Keynes but didn't get it.

I bet he's glad now that he was turned down there by a League Two club and is now in charge at a Premier League club.
