What exactly is this?
And considering that I've never actually used it why am I being told that I need to increase it?

Are you with Apple? If so then you have backup switched on and it’s backing up all your photos etc and you will be running out of storage.

Thanks for answering, i'm not with Apple. I'm not sure why I would need to back up the lousy photos that I take, TBH

use Google, you get 15 gb cloud storage for free. You can have unlimited Google accounts afaik so you shouldn't run out

no, Google stuff is free for the basic stuff - you get 15gb with google drive
