Tommy McDermott

Post by agreenwood » Sat Jun 28, 2025 6:53 pm

Been up at Dundee on a two week trial and scored today in their game versus Arbroath, but the Scottish press are reporting that we’ve decided to trigger an option, extend his contract and recall him to Burnley.

The Dundee manager reckons we’ve decided we need him at least for the summer.

Wonder if the impending absence of a certain midfielder is a factor in that decision.

He extended his contract with us back in May to 2026. So we wouldn't need to trigger anything to keep him with us.

McDermott impresses before Burnley recall

Steven Pressley watched Tommy McDermott get his Dundee career off to winning ways in the 2-0 win over Arbroath – and then saw him immediately recalled by Burnley.

The midfielder had been on trial with the Dark Blues but the English Premiership new boys have decided to trigger an extension in his deal and have taken him back for their pre-season.

New signing Drey Wright scored direct from a corner and the 20-year-old netted the second in the win at Arbroath before he signed off and hit the road back down to Turf Moor.

“He scored a good goal but Burnley have called him back. He’s driving down the road today.

He is one they want to use this summer but we’ll see what happens at the end of the window.

He could possibly come back up. Tommy is a great kid and he showed his quality today”.

I really like McDermott so I hope he does go and gets a full season under him.

Think he’s one for the future

Played very well v Reading in FA cup and looks like a loan up to Championship level or at least Scottish Premier league may help his development

I knew McDermott was up at Dundee, surprising to see that we’ve called him back.

He was one of the players for whom we had an option which we triggered. Same applied for Ashton, Bevan, Casper & Veevers.

Sounds like it was a two week trial? Maybe that was just to assess if they’d take him? Or maybe we’re a midfielder lighter than we expected to be…

Thanks, good to know I wasn't imagining things.

So it was never part of the plan for him to return? I can only imagine that’s because we’ve had a change in circumstances than  :?

Personally I’m glad to see him involved in our pre-season though.

The plan was for him to go there on loan. Circumstances must have changed somewhat here for us to recall him.

He certainly looks to have something about him. Would have expected us to give him a longer deal and loan him out.

It does seem like unless there's been an injury we don't know about then there's only 1 real explanation for it

I think people are overthinking it if it’s related to brownhill.
