Trafford's replacement

Post by billyhamilton82 » Sun Jun 29, 2025 6:07 pm

It's looking highly likely that Traff will be leaving.

Who do you think or want as his replacement.

Personally I feel we need a keeper with Premier League experience as this will probably be our most important signing.

We can't go into the season with another untried premier league keeper as we did under VK.

Nick Pope would be my first choice but if not then Leicester keeper Mads Hermansen may be on the radar?

If we don't go for a seasoned PL keeper could Muric make a return or a Champ keeper like Cooper?

Its possibly a left field move from abroad, we were linked with a keeper at the beginning of the window (Not Max Weiss) but can't remember his name.

I'm no expert on keepers (as you can tell) anyone with any ideas who we might go for?

Ramsdale. Coming into his peak and stuck in the champ. We could probably get him for between 10 to 20 mill

When we signed Weiβ I thought it strengthened the chance of keeping Trafford for a year because I didn't think we would want to throw the new man straight in. Should Trafford go, it would be interesting, but please don't mention Muric. I didn't think he was good enough first time round and I definitely would not want him back.

Muric in the Prem is more suited to a side that doesn't concede many chances so he doesn't need to dive. Oh and doesn't need to pass out quickly. Perfect for everything else though..

I’d much prefer an early 30’s type experienced prem keeper than blowing big money on a “ future asset “ type one .

That might have been his Premier League wage, but if Soton have any sense there’ll be relegation % wage drops in his contract so I doubt he’s on 120k a week now.

My shout would be Viktor Johansson at Stoke. Think he’d be a brilliant fit and is only 26.

Cant believe Ramsdale is on £120k a week and a 4 year contract (3 years now). He would be a brilliant choice if the figures were right but I think he might be attracted to a more established PL side

My choice would be Sam Johnstone at Wolves who is second choice and with bags of experience. I suspect more affordable fee wise and wage wise

I've found who we were linked with at the beginning of the window, Turkish international Ugurcan Cakir.

The problem he has is there's only 20 number one slots and most of them are taken. I doubt he'd go somewhere where he'd be number 2 so that probably leaves about 3 teams at a guess that are after a new number 1 in the Prem. I think we'd be in with a great chance of getting him if we could come to an agreement on wages which is a big if.

Point being, there’s no way we can offer him anywhere close to that.
Only chance would be a loan paying a portion.

Much more likely to go to Leeds or Sunderland

Can’t think of his name but the Sheffield Utd keeper looks good.

I saw him live on a number of games-he is young and very good, but I sense if he leaves he will go at close to Trafford's eventual fee. Plus Marasca managed him at Leicester and he would be my favorite at landing him for Chelsea who are in need of a good keeper

I never used to rate him when he was younger. But I think he’s a solid keeper who’s made a few duff choices. I’d take him for sure.

Part of me wonders whether Vlachadimos could be part of the deal with the Newcastle,

They spent nearly 20m on him last summer but he’s barely featured at all

A realistic affordable proposition when in all likelihood a parting of ways would come at the end of the season come relegation or the slender stop up & find somebody else. The name of the game is to stop up & the rest can come later.

Sounds like Newcastle want to play hardball with us and Trafford.
I say we do the same.
Tell them to come back in January, but by then, they might have missed the boat. When The Boat Comes In, anyone?
Would Man U, Spurs or Chelsea come in late. I've read that James was a Chelsea fan, when younger. Or Bayern?

Also seems like Nick Pope wants to stay for Champions League.

I'm not a fan of Ramsdale, don't think he coped well with losing his place at Arsenal.

I'll trust Parker on this one.

Newcastle missed out on the likely lads upon signing Chris wood.

Looks like Newcastle are missing out on Joao Pedro. Brighton have accepted a bid from Chelsea.

Hopefully someone else comes in for JT soon and gets them upping their bid.

Confident we will have replacements lined up ready to go, as it feels inevitable that JT will leave.

I don't think he will leave this summer as no club will bid the price we want...

Newcastle can go another season with Nick Pope.
.....then Trafford is on a free transfer and they save
£40 million. Good business.

Why would he be on a free? His contract with us expires in June 2027

If Parker and his team have identified Weiss as being able to be number one this season, that’ll do for me.
